Sure why not. Dazzle us with what the actual mission is or is going to be?

Since there isn’t an actual space force branch that’s going to be pretty hard...it’s just the air force doing the usual air force mission that includes space.

God damn it! I want to know what he “thinks” they will be doing!!

If it’s like any other branch, we know they will def be doing hands across space to pick up all the space trash... and I better not find any god damn cosmic cigarette butts!

There are 4 Major Warfighting Functions... Orbital Warfare, Space Electronic Warfare, Space Battle Management, and Space Access and Sustainment. If you're not in one of those youll be a support function (i.e. satcom, cyber, intel). Pretty much we are taking most space folks from all services (95% Air Force) and clumping them together to include those that fall under 3 letter agencies. One of the biggest problems we have in space is how we have to follow the standard Air Tasking Cycle to integrate with the other services and what we do doesn't merge well with this format. Additionally the finance battle between the ground/air war effort and space assets is a nightmare. You wanna buy a jet for $35m? That's cute. Try and launch a bird for under $90m let alone purchase the actual bird. I've been pulling crew ops (12hr+ shifts 6:1) for six years and thats the standard across all space missions. If you're not keeping the bird flying you're operating it's mission.

Space Force has been in construction since the early 70's and we are pretty much self-sufficient as it is...we just gotta play by Air Force rules until we get our own branch.

Pretty much you're gonna launch birds, do missile warning, keep birds flying, or perform electronic warfare/defense. Pretty sure all of CYBERCOM is going to fall under Space Force as well seeing as they are still under Space Command.

Biggest problem is bumming rides from spaceX to actually get into space.

So space force doesn’t actually include space. Unless you count “cyber” space.

Depends on how you look at it. Would you argue that spacecrafts are not in space?

I personally will never go to space but i'll sure as hell talk your ear off about the benifits of a Hohhmann satellite transfer over a traditional burn on-orbit.

Despite popular belief you don't just throw a satellite in space and it works...some (un)lucky 18-year-old gets to spend his better years sending commands to it every couple of minutes so it doesn't crash into everybody else up there or go dark.

I would certainly argue that there are very few manned space crafts actually in space.

Maybe they should’ve named it space “squad?”

Not trying to be a dick but what is the purpose and mission? We don’t even have a space program anymore. At least not one that provides its own space transport.

I dunno, the REAL life concept just doesn’t make sense to me.

Oh the humanity. That poor kid gets to sit on his ass in front of a computer in an office with fresh coffee and a bathroom down the hall. It’s a tough life.

Yes and no. There are many gigs in space that even us Operators scoff at because they're so cake. But missile warning and EW are a whole different beast. Pulling crew for years at a time really digs at you because you won't see the sun, no holidays, no weekends, no leave, and no NIPR access (worst by far). After having spent my time on the flightline launching 15's at the peak of OIR...it was a joke. Crew-chiefin' was a vacation compared to the OPS tempo and stress put on Space Operators.

Not throwing a pity party for 1C6 because I don't really care for the job, but we have an astronomical (no pun intended) suicide/non-retention rate. Soely the effect of our "WWIII is in your hands" approach, which it is.

If you can cut it though...look forward to an easy 6 figure paycheck upon getting out...often without a degree.

Pretty much it'll either be the easiest job you'll ever have or you'll have the most stressful/rewarding time of your life.
