Does your dealer have a website with the parts heavily discounted where you can order whatever part you want? My most local dealer doesn’t have one and always gives me MSRP quotes on parts, so I haven’t ever bothered to ask for many parts through them, gonna have to see what they say about pro parts if they do this. The dealer I bought my truck from gives zero fooks and has one of those deeply discounted parts websites like Olathe and will sell anything they can sell to someone.

Ive always wondered why some do this and some don’t, maybe it has something to do with their contracts with Toyota.

That's the only thread I've seen on here about Quicksand TRD Pro conversion. There might be another but don't know :notsure:

Thanks. I am confident that somebody in Tacoland has made a QS Pro clone.

I dont think anyone cares that someone makes a clone. But as a car guy I've been on the scene for many years and know plenty try to pass something off for what it's not. Specifically in the sale of the vehicle. Not saying anyone here would do that, if I had a penny for every time I ran into someone at a show that tried to pass off a lower trim level as top trim I would be a millionaire. Not everyone is well versed. Not everyone is enough of a "car guy" to know what they are looking at isnt the real deal, especially when the clone is very well done. This is a HUGE problem and is a lot more prevalent than people like to admit. The pro is actually extremely rare when compared to the total amount of tacos cooked per year. It does devalue the prestige a bit for someone who shelled out a premium for the trim when a dealer just nonchalantly passes out the parts to just any swinging dick that comes along so I get it. So I can see both sides of the arguement. Personally I dont care, you can put as many pro badges on your SR5 as you want, no one gives a shit. But I fully get why dealers would want to try to stop it. If suddenly every single taco on the road "and you see at least 50 a day even in rural areas" was a """"""TRD pro"""""" then it isnt a special thing anymore.

With over 1200 Toyota dealers in the US it’s nearly impossible for corporate to crack down on this practice.

One of the reasons I convinced myself to just go for the Pro is because I talked them down to a price range I was comfortable with, and also because I knew it would retain it's value more because of exclusivity. I'm not saying I'm special or exclusive, but I can see how saturation of the "exclusivity" can devalue it as a whole.

I just want my resale to hold like it did with my Jeep Rubicon.

This is absolutely true, especially when dealerships are privately owned and operated. But that said the community also holds a certain amount of responsibility to not necessarily stop it.... but not to encourage it ether right? Personally I'm neutral on the subject so long as someone isnt doing it to fool someone or a shadey way to increase the value of the vehicle for resale. I'm not the type who likes to horde exclusivity to myself, anyone is welcome to it so long as they adhere to certain unspoken rules so to speak.

Take the grand national for example. These days you never see a 82 or 84-87 regals now. You only see grand national's. And about 30% of the damn things are an actual grand national. I've seen guys say they have an 83. Or the steering wheel center icon is wrong. The numbers in the trunk stickers are wrong. The grills wrong. The vin isnt right etc etc. This issue plagues so many muscle/exotic cars it's insane. In 30 years the pro would be no different.

That’s fraud and I agree those people are scum. One would hope that a person would check out the VIN as much as they could when buying used.

Fair, but they don’t seem to even want to try and enforce their copyrights and trademarks, so that doesn’t help much either. You have US based vendors selling straight ripoffs of the grille and you don’t see Toyota even batting an eye to it. Meanwhile you got companies like Disney going after Etsy people for making Baby Yoda crochet dolls.

It's hard to stop rogue parts guys doing it, it's a whole lot easier to crackdown on discounted parts websites that don't require any kind of VIN check.

One should check the VIN regardless because there's way too many damn dealers who can't figure out the difference between transmissions, much less trim levels and options. I looked at hundreds of Tacomas in the four years I looked, and the amount of dealers who didn't know any better was absolutely staggering. These were Toyota dealers, too.

I think one reason why Toyota might not crack down too hard on things is while there is some copyright infringement going on, even just grey area infringement, the people that it is going to hurt are Toyota customers and fans. Do some token stuff to protect your IP, but not much more.

Somehow just now seeing this thread... I've pretty much completely turned my OR into a Pro at this point. Suspension, hood, lighting all around, badging and decal removal (still OR not Pro, but same aesthetics on the doors & tailgate), exhaust, grill obviously, better interior audio, skid plate, etc. Probably forgetting some of the things I've done. Next and last step is adding leather. Only thing setting my truck apart from a real Pro at that point is the parking sensors, blind spot monitor, climate control, and sunroof which I care zero about. Here she is:

They're SSR Auswuch -- often referred to as the "King of JDM Off-road Wheels".
Forged (so they're strong and light), multi-piece wheels made in Japan. Faces can be removed. Vintage, but of utmost quality.

Freakin hate sunroofs, wish you they would separate that from the premium package, that and leather seats too.

My last two cars had sunroofs and I enjoyed them often. But I'm over 6'1" and didn't like the lack of head space in the trucks with sunroofs. I'm very comfortable in my truck without one. I even stopped and looked at a 2020 when they hit lots to see if the power seat made that much of a noticeable difference. It didn't, still didn't have adequate headroom. Plus, when I add a roof rack it'd make a sunroof pointless if I had one. Along with the parking/blind spot sensors being null when I change the rear bumper for some steel. Didn't really have the intention of turning my truck into a Pro as much as I did when I got it, but here we are

This is really making me contemplate ordering the 4x4 emblem, dipping it and the V6 emblem, and taking the Sport decals off the sides.
