Looking for a drop-down bracket from the existing tonneau cover holes to mount a utility chest type tool box. I would like to attach a bolt with knob to it for quick detachment. I will probably cable lock it as well.

Can anyone confirm that this works:

I would rather it mount it flush rather than this type, but I could make it work. It's designed for the rails instead of the tonneau holes

I would welcome another other ideas.

New member, and new Tacoma owner. I'm loving both the site and truck. This site has been very helpful so far. It has me leaning toward a softopper with probably the wedged UWS 42 inch chest box. As soon as I save some more money, that is!

I did something similar with the original quick fist mounts. I just used a drop down hanger from depot and stuck a 1” wood block behind it to give it some added stability. I used the existing bolts from the tonneau cover and went through the bracket. I’m going to make some revisions though and use threaded Riv nuts to bolt it directly to the bed. Not sure if this helps

Yes, that helps! I was really thinking about the two holes behind the cab that are there for the OEM tonneau. I like that setup too, and I may try the same with the splitting maul. Appreciate your help.
