    I’ve been in the auto repair industry for over 30 years. I’ve yet to see an engine failure due to the brand of oil. Lack of maintenance, yes.

    just changed my oil in my 2019 at 2,413 miles, used royal purple 0W-20 and a NAPA platinum (47047) filter cartridge. I will be doing 5K oil change intervals, (yes i know that 10K is fine, but old habits die hard).

    On my last vehicle, I ran mobil 1 EP 5W-30 with BG MOA and NAPA platinum filters at 5k intervals.

    May switch to OEM filters but I hate ordering things online and the stealership is a ways away. I didn’t see them at Walmart when I OT my oil / filter this last time.

    Mobil 1 full synthetic and usually a Wix filter unless something better is on sale. Don't over think it man, it's just oil.

    Pennzoil back in the day around 1981 had some sort of bad batch of oil that resulted in them dishing out a lot of money . I remember my dad getting a $$$$ check for engine failure due to their oil . Been a long time but I’m pretty sure it was Pennzoil.:notsure: Maybe it was Quaker State my memory is shot :rofl:

    Legal experts called the award the biggest ever in a civil case, dwarfing the $1.8 billion initially won by the MCI Communications Corporation in 1980 in an antitrust suit against the American Telephone and Telegraph Company. ... The Pennzoil case was his first, however, on behalf of a major corporate client.Nov 21, 1985

    I think you were right about it being Pennzoil. I think they had some kind of wax in the oil that caused buildup in the engine. I could be wrong, my memory is shot too.

    Has anyone taken these cheapy entry-level synthetics out to 10k?

    I'm curious as I looked up the Toyota genuine and it has a TBN of 10.2 so lots of detergent. These cheap synthetics are around 7.2 TBN (Supertech, Kirkland, Amazon) which is around 30% less detergent.

    Every petroleum engine oil made in the USA was either paraffin based or asphalt based, depending on which part of the nation it was drilled out of. That wax & asphalt firming up in winter, is what prompted the search and development for synthetic lubes around the world.

    {Then when turbine engines -with their super high heat (+900*) and operation in super cold (-65*) environments- came along, synthetic was needed even more so = to cover both ends of the spectrum.}

    I can not see paying $12 more a jug for Mobile One

    Just purchased an '11 Lexus GX 460 w/95K on it....8 quart oil capacity

    what oil ? you guessed it....Super Tech 0w20 from Warren Oil Mfg

    The Costco synthetic is $25 for two 5 quart jugs in the store, so that breaks down to $12.50/oil change ($2.50/quart). That's "dino juice" prices. The best price I could find for a 5 quart jug of Mobile One was $20, which was still a bargain!

    Hello Costco!
