    Hi,
    Can I use larger YZDD3 in my 15- prerunner-2.7-i4-DC-AT-RWD?

Also what's a difference between 90915-YZDD1 vs 90915-YZDD3 ? I see that YZDD3 is longer but opening is same size!?

    Thank you!

Yup, a 90915-YZZD3 filter fits perfectly, that's what I use on my 2.7. The D3 is longer than a D1, so (I think) the D3 has more filter media inside, along having slightly more oil capacity.

    Yes.

Your opening statement was correct. It's larger. ;):D

But as @nickonfire700 says, longer, touch more media, touch more capacity.

If it costs more (IDK) it's not worth the cost, you should still be on 10k intervals.

I see you have an auto? There are transmission fluid lines below the filter that may cause nuisance if you used a longer filter:

Really no downside to using bigger filter. I use the YZZD3 on a Lexus RX400 and I use the filter for Lexus on a Prius. I think Toyota uses maybe 4 or five different filters and some are interchangeable. Why not go for increased capacity and filtration?

Good point! But i believe there is enough clearance for YZDD3.

has anyone upgraded from the YZZD3? Do upgrades exist?

On the plus side, YZZD3 is cheap, made by Denso, and I don't think a bad brand.
It's readily available at the dealer.
It's not the smallest. Filtration media is probably not bad.

    But...
It's also not the biggest. I mean compared to other oil filters, it's small...
Not only do other vehicles have bigger oil filters, but putting even bigger ones is common
and other cars usually use or have an offering from Mann, which seems like the best filter company period.

Mann doesn't list anything for the Taco, but I've heard they have one that fits. I'd only be worried about matching specs and what is ideal. In terms of internal bypass spring opening pressure.
And the Taco probably has room to fit.
    (1GR V6)

for example, previous car used this filter
    not that expensive
    good quality
    Very big

Supposedly Toyota has a bigger one that costs more and is harder to find. I don't know if this is only something folks get to run their oil longer.

whenever I put on a YZZD3 it feels like some kids toy pretend coffee cup or something, like a joke of a filter

I believe Amsoil has one. But, at that much higher price
However, YZZD3 is like as cheap as $5
the Amsoil one is $20 + shipping and looks just as small
    No...

like, there has to be a reason every other car has a bigger filter...

    more examples
the crappy N/A 3.2L V6 Audi motor, big filter (fleece)

    Old Mercedes taxi cab engine 3.2L V6 (M112) N/A
    big filter

those cars may advertise themselves as up to 10k mi OCI though, so maybe that's the only reason they chose that filter size
versus I believe Toyota literature technically recommends 5k OCI on the Tacoma, making it sound like half the filter life for half the OCI interval would make sense and be fine

Mann makes excellent oil and air filters. Volvo-labled Mann filters were OEM on all of the Volvo's I had in the 90's and 2000's. Bosch oil filters are also very good too. Like Denso for Toyota, Bosch was the OEM supplier for much of the electronics on them as well. Their OEM alternators were very expensive, but you could expect to easily get at least 200,000 miles out of them and I did on three of them. Longest was about 275k. That car finally called it a day at 320 thousand, and I removed the alternator before they towed it away.

was researching and saw a bunch of pics of folks using other larger filters similar to that but different color

appeared to be the same concern, clearance to the engine cover

IMO probably wouldn’t be a big deal to cut it, and worth it

whether draw the cut line then use a jigsaw, etc
or take a hole saw left over
Got a BiMetal Milwaukee one sitting around left over from snorkel install that would probably work; 4.5”

or even a straight diagonal cut on the corner

idk if there’s even a purpose of the cover
Some covers are to heat insulate, reduce noise, fire retardant material to melt and drape to smother a fire. Or reduce heat transfer to hood that would cause paint bubble

maybe the stock cover shouldn’t be tossed…especially since the stock hood doesn’t come with an insulation mat
