So, turns out I bought resistors...the correct thing....does it need to be oriented a certain way in the circuit? How do you tell?

Resistors are not sensitive to polarity. It doesn’t matter which way you orient them

    When a resistor has a value - say 2%...

does that mean it is only allowing 98% of the supplied current to pass

    or

only 2% of the supplied current to pass?

The tolerance rating refers accuracy of the resistor's stated value. So, a resistor with a 2% tolerance can be + or - 2%, i.e. a 100 ohm resistor has a range of 98-102 ohms.

so if I am trying to reduce a lighting circuit feeding the dash illumination of 6 led push button switches by 25%

am I needing to use a 75% resistor cause it is only allowing 75% of the 100% supply current to pass?

or a 25% resistor cause it is blocking 25% of the supplied 100% supply current.

This is what I am confused on...the value, does it mean reduce by “X” amount or only allow “X/100” of the total?

The percentage rating you are seeing is how "accurate" the resistor is. Like @Greeny stated, if you are seeing a '10%' rating on a 100 ohm resistor, the resistor is going to resist the voltage running through it by as little as 90 ohms and as much as 110 ohms. Ie the resistor is gonna vary its resistive ability.

The amount of electricity a resistor resists is measured in ohms. 50 ohms, 100 ohms, 150 ohms.
The symbol for ohms is the omega or horseshoe looking symbol

Now, it gets confusing even to me because there's equations you need to use to achieve what you want. To reduce the 'power' getting to the switch, I believe (I'm no electrician btw) you want to reduce amps. So you would need to measure the amps getting to the switch and reduce that by 25%.

    Voltage/ohms=amps

So if you want 1 amp getting to the switch:

12 volts (or whatever your battery is supplying usually more)/12 ohm resistor = 1 amp.

    12v/12ohm=1amp

Like I said, I'm no electrician but I think this is how it works.

It would be quite easy to just temporarily start trying 'small' resistors (2 ohms) and working your way up until you achieve what you want.

Do you have a diagram of the wiring to the driver's side window control switch? Trying to add Auto Up/Down to my SR5 for both front windows and need the wiring diagram.
    Thanks

the amount of connections made at the battery doesn’t matter. What tends to happen is when you put too many ring terminals/lugs on a battery terminal is they restrict the terminal from getting a good bite on the battery post. Also you can damage/weaken the ring terminals and cause a failure.

if I was you I would get a aux fuse panel. You can get cheap ones and more expensive high quality ones. This would mean you’d have one wire that connects at the battery and all of your power leads would go to the aux fuse box.

at the end of the day...
If your battery terminal is tight on the post
    Your connections are strong...
And they are all fused with the proper size fuse.

    you’re good.

    Thanks for the diagram.

I did try and Google, several times. Looked at numerous diagrams.

    Google does not love me.

@Kens04Taco I'm hoping your expertise can help me. I have spoken with toyota, and they claim they can't find the housing connector for the short style switch located on the 3rd gens among other toyota/scion vehicles. The part I'm looking for is the grey connector that plugs into the factory switch as well as the repair terminals to wire it.

For tall style switches, this part was called housing connector F with the part number 90980-11090.

For reference, I'm talking about the grey connector pictured below. *Pic stolen from another thread*

Does anybody know of a source for Toyota wiring harness plugs? I'm looking for the male and female pieces.

This is the plug I'm looking for (ignore the annotations) It is the plug that connects to the 4wd control module on the 2nd gen Tacoma Off Road trucks.

    Hello,

I just ordered some amber bed lights that i plan to install under my truck. (

I want to wire each side into my turn signals they are led so i don't think the draw will affect the flash speed.

I also want to run them on a simple on off switch w/ relay.

I was thinking an on/off switch wired to both sides and each blinker wired to each side with a dual input diode to keep it from lighting my turn signals when i have them on steady.
