I started getting into cash back and points credit cards a few years ago. I always pay my statement balance in full, so I never worry about the interest rate. I never understood why anyone would carry a balance on a credit card, the interest rates are just ridiculous. Don't spend money you don't have on a credit card!

    1. BOA Cash Rewards. Used to be 3% gas, but now you can set that to whatever category you want. I still just use this mainly for gas.
    2. Capital One Venture 60,000 sign up point bonus (worth $600) with the annual fee waived the 1st year. This does 2% back on travel, dining, etc.
When the fee hit on year 2, I product changed to Capital One Quicksilver (1.5% cash back) and got the fee reimbursed. I use this card for any purchases that I can't get better than 1.5%.
    3. Amazon Prime Rewards card through chase. 5% at Amazon and Whole Foods. I buy enough on amazon to justify this, so this actually nets me a lot of cash back. They also upped all cash back to 2% until the end of Feb, so I moved pretty much all expenses to this until then.
    4. Chase Sapphire Preferred. I signed up for this right before a big move to hit the minimum spend and get the 60,000 points worth about $750 when redeemed for travel. This does have an annual fee, but I know I'm going to be traveling so this makes sense. I now have about 75,000 points that will pay for 2 round trip tickets to HI from TX.

I don't spend anymore on these cards then I normally would. I may downgrade the CSP when the annual fee hits again, but it just depends on what card I get next.
I also will always do any online shopping through a portal like Rakuten, TopCashback, etc.

    For example:
I had a work trip to a conference and the hotel was a marriott. BOA is doing 15% cash back up to $48 at Mariott. Purchased the hotel through topcashback for 5% back (at the time) and 15% back on the BOA card. I then get reimbursed through my job for the travel.
    I just made $85!

If anyone want's a referral link to any of these let me know. As long as you keep track of your cards and spending you can make back a decent amount.

Last year I got about $600 back (just cash back, not counting those travel points on the chase card). If you take my rent out of my expenses, I got an average of 2% return on my expenses.

Haha, yes. I moved to Philadelphia in 2017 for a new job, and just moved to Texas for a new job at the end of last year.

Edit: prior to that I was living in Tallahassee, FL and paying something like $300/mo or less. At one point my rent was $125/mo.

I plan to buy a house in the next few years.

So my company is switching from Wells Fargo to Schwabb Retirement Plan Services.

What all questions would you guys ask when changing to a new provider?

Ask for a sheet with all investment options, their performance, and associates fees. Typically the larger the company you work for the more options you’ll have and the lower the fees will be.

Yeah, this is the kind of day that I'm glad I still have a chunk in a bond fund. It helps offset some losses and it pays a dividend this week as well.

If it's a 401K, they should match your existing stuff to an equal fund in the new plan if the new plan doesn't have the same funds available. It should get converted automatically for you unless they tell you to pick where you want it to go.

Everything! This will blow over just like every other panic (SARS, MERS, ebola, trade war, potential Iran war, a million other things).

anyone reallocating their portfolios today? I am honestly surprised it took this long for there to be a selloff. I was thinking of reallocating a few days ago. Ship is leaving the harbor! It won't be coming back until coronavirus is under control (lol)

I just found this thread. I was wondering what everyone's opinion on the Tesla stock is. I bought a few shares when it was around $230. I was contemplating on selling when it shot up past $900. Then it dropped down to like $750 the next day. Over the past week or so it went back up to around $900 and now it is back on a steady decline. Its at $850 now and I am contemplating on selling. This stock is just crazy. I am not a gambling man by nature and this one just seems so volatile. Or should I just hold onto it an hope that it goes back up when they release the Model Y?

I am surprised you bought it after reading this sentence of your post. It's purely speculative, it may go down to $10 or up to $5,000. None of that is based on fundamentals obviously, considering it has never had a profitable year. It's purely for trading, kind of like Bitcoin. And Tulip Bulbs.

You are asking the members of a truck forum for advice on timing the market on selling what many consider speculative stock. Think about this for a second.

Make regular contributions into broad market ETFs and forget about trying to outsmart Wall Street?
