Been towing a boat and trailer with a combined weight about 4000#, been working well for years.
However, as always, Im looking at buying a bigger boat. New boat and trailer would be approx. 5500#. My truck is a 2020 Sport longbed. Billstein 5100s up front and an added leaf pack in the rear. I'm not much worried about stopping as the trailer has disk brakes on both axles. Im am sorta worried whether or not this engine will have the torque to adequately pull that boat.
    Any ideas?

As long as you understand its not a V8 under the hood. Assuming its an automatic transmission; look into something like a Scangauge II to monitor transmission temps.

I pull a boat that's 5300#. Like @rnish said, monitor the trans temps. I use a Carista and OBD Fusion but same concept as a scangauge.
I get right around 200-210 F and I change my Trans fluid out ever 30,000 miles.
Don't expect to climb large grades, but otherwise it's fine.
Always have ETC on and in S4 or lower.
A re-gear to 4.88 or 5.29 will help as well. I haven't done it yet but next on my list.

Waiting for the self proclaimed engineers to show up and tell you the real amount our truck is able to tow (always less). If it falls in the specs by toyota you can do it, just drive cautiously.

Yeah lower gears would make a big difference for sure. Big $ though. I love my Taco's but before I'd go the re-gear route Id probably step up to a Tundra.

I agree. I'll never pretend to know more than the engineers at Toyota. Only a fool would do that. Yeah, I never "beat" any of my trucks. If I feel for a minute I was overworking it Id back off. We'll see, that's a lot of weight for that 6cyl to be dragging around.

Didn't buy the bigger one yet. It's a 2015 Chris Craft 23 Catalina. center console.

Be damn certain your trailer brakes work and are adequate! Yes it can pull X pounds yes it has a hitch rating but You absolutely need brakes designed for the trailer weight. It's a bitch heading down a hill with your foot hard on the brake pedal and your not slowing down.

For a 23’ boat, I’d definitely consider a V8 at that point. Yes, you can get bye, but you’re really working that tranny and would have to drive extra cautious like some have mentioned here. I tow a 19’ Whaler and while she does fine pulling it on the flats, she sure damn struggles getting her up to speed on steep grades. Upgraded to 4.88 gears too, but didn’t help with adding bigger tires and sliders.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
My son owns a parasail company and he's got a couple 28-31 ft parasail boats. A couple years ago he moved one with his 2nd gen dbcb TRD. A couple hours later he texted me a pic of his new company truck. A Tundra Crewmax Limited. One short trip with the Tacoma was all it took.

    Welcome to TW.
Just wanted to point out that our V6's have more HP and torque than a V8 from the 90's. Why do we need more hp its based on the horse power mathematical equation. Do we really think it would take 278 real horses to pull 5500#. I just love the better get a V8 remarks.

Stopping is different, but you have trailer brakes and the suspension addressed. You are good to go the recommended towing speed. Enjoy!

I tow 5700lbs without any issues. ECT on, S4 S5 usually get around 10mpg. Not winning any speed races, but feels safe and stress free to me.IMG_20190414_1435433.jpg IMG_20180512_1757131.jpg IMG_20190602_1600045.jpg

No all stock. The tongue weight is 570 lbs, sags the rear a bit but doesn't hit bump stops or anything.
