Lug nuts

Hi all,

I have a 2017 sr5 Tacoma with the basic wheels (steel?). I just bought some take off wheels from a Tacoma that are on the nicer trim packages. Anyways I took to toyota dealer to have them swap out. After taking it back they informed me that I needed the tapered lug nuts and the OEM lug nuts that were originally on my truck would not work? So I bought "tapered lug nuts" from Amazon. When I took one of the OEM lug nuts off and compared them to the aftermarket ones they look identical except that the new ones are a bit longer in depth. Can someone clarify??

There are only 2 styles available for a Tacoma. The steel wheel lugs nut, also known as an acorn.


Or the mag style used on the Aluminum wheels. These will also work when using the spare steel wheel.

 

I'm sorry but what are mag style? Can you explain this. I know very little about lug nuts. Attached are the lug nuts I ordered and the wheels I ordered.

 

Mag style are the style with the flat seat and washer. The bottom nuts in my post and @whatstcp post. The wheels that you have pictured are aluminum and to my knowledge require the mag style lug nugs. Not acorn. Maybe someone here with those wheels can verify this.

Edit : an easy way to tell is if the lug hole has a flat face and next to no taper.

those are aluminum wheels with the flat seat so you are right, they require the mag style lug nuts, not the acorn. OP was too focused on length instead of the proper style. It's fine though, Amazon has a painless return policy. OP get the mag style in proper thread and pitch and you'll be fine.

 

You can use the lug nuts for the alloy rims on the steel rims but you can’t use the lug nuts for the steel rim for the alloy rim.

 

With the alloy wheels you need these lugnuts.

thanks all! I always learn so much from the community here. Originally I mistakenly ordered the acorn style M12x1.50. It seems like the oem lug nut wrench that came with the truck is a little too big for M12x1.50 lug nut. Can anyone tell me what size lug nut I should get for the OEM lug nut wrench that will fit the new mag seat lug nuts?
