    So I have a 2011 2.7 6 lug...
Just this week I noticed a clunking noise coming from rear driver side.

Sure enough looked to notice a broken rear leaf spring. I have heared of these breaking and it being an issue - it was a recall in some specific tacomas (they go by vin).

So I contacted Toyota Canada directly to see if it would be covered under the recalls I'd heard of. But of course they said my vin number was not one of the models that would be. However, the person I talked to suggested I get my frame inspected as well as a seat belt recall.

After getting a frame inspection, mine passed the inspection (surprisingly - as it seemed very rusted below) and they said I need to get the spray done.

The goal here was to get the whole frame replaced, as well as the new leaf springs along side... does anyone know if it is at the dealers discretion for the frame replacement program or does it have to go through Toyota- wondering if speaking to the service manager might get the ball rolling

Any suggestions and experiences please share. Trying to save on the costs of repairs atm... also I plan on the truck staying in the family for a while, the new frame would be optimal.

    Thanks

I dealt with the same issue with my old truck. I tried to get my frame replaced as it was baddd, but they said I need a respray instead. They don't care about the rust they just look for holes in the frame if you look and find some rust holes take pictures and go ballistic on a service manager. I had to go to 4 different dealers and finally, I was able to talk to a service manager before 1 of them even said I needed a respray. I would try going to different dealers. There's not much you can do really, obviously, Toyota would rather spray than the frame replacement which sucks for us. If you really want a new frame I guess you could just replace your leaf and wait it out a year or so but yenno. I just had my new truck resprayed and I highly recommend it if that's the path you want to take

Hey. Thanks for the info. I was pretty much gonna do the try the different dealers and talk to the managers. But it's a harsh winter right now and dont want to get under there... but anyway I have it in the shop now getting the coating.. will check it during the summer to see if they missed anything that's worth bringing to the attention of them.

The leaf spring I unfortunately have to deal with on my own -.-

Glad, but unfortunate, to hear I'm not the only one.

I quickly checked over my frame on my truck right after I picked it up. Same deal harsh winter but I just had to check. They don’t do as much as you’d think, atleast for my 13’ it’s like a wax they put in different places and they put a bunch of plugs just to seal the frame so rust can’t start in holes and stuff. They wire brushed it sprayed it and then sealed it. But they only did from my front door and forward, nothing was done to the rear of the truck
