Yes unfortunately the latest gun bug to bite me is the Barrett M82A1 in .50BMG. Its the top gun I've had on my wish list since I’ve gotten into firearms and I finally have the financial means to own one (gunbroker has them under 7K, throw a vortex PST 5-25X on there for $800).

I can’t help but think of all the mods I could do to my Tacoma or the other cool guns on my list I could get for 7K (scar 17, Cz Bren 2, various surplus rifles) buuuuuuut I also can’t help but think of how absolutely freaking fun it would be to shoot targets at 1000-2000 yards on my land! There’s just something about a 30lbs rifle that can shoot into the next county that gets me going:quickdraw:

    Talk me out of it.

You picked wrong place to have people talk you out of stuff. That said, if you have a place to shoot it safely, and enjoy it.......:spending:

Hey, I like my Gen 2 PST, and stretch it out to 1,200 yards often. But, if I was going to buy a .50 BMG, I'd be shooting much further, and looking to glass that'll get me out to ELR distances. Buy a mile rifle, buy mile glass.

Only issue is the price of ammo for it.... gonna have to take out a mortgage just to have a range day

Buy gun, save for better glass.

Nightforce, Khales, Schmidt and Bender or similar. That’s a whole lotta gun. I have had the pleasure of using one. It’s an experience for sure.

If i had the land, I would buy it in a heartbeat. But the M82A1 has OK accuracy. If I had the money and land, I'd look into a gun with a more modern long range caliber. It's not as iconic as an M82, but you'll get better performance.

Yep. Paying for a 3-4 MOA gun with a 5-7 bucks a round appetite is my primary concern. Secondly, a fair amount of long range ranges don't allow .50 as it is rough on their steel targets.

A .338Lapua or holding off for a .338 Norma option would be a better idea.

Do you want one to shoot long range or do you want one just because you want one? Have you shot one before? I was super excited the first time I shot one. After 10 rounds or so I was over it. The triggers are absolutely junk, they have tons of recoil, and they aren't very accurate.

If you want to shoot long range there are way better choices for guns and calibers, if you just want one because you want one, then go for it. Hell, I'll sell you the ammo I have left over that I didn't shoot.

Sorry, I can't try to talk you out of it as I have one, well an M99 anyway.
Always wanted one from way back when I was a kid and first seen them.
M99 for me will be cheaper to use. Can't pull the trigger more than once
before reloading. o_O Always have people wanting to shoot it. Never have
anyone not want to pay $10 for a chance at it. That's all most want is to say
    they shot one.

If your into the .50, get it. A 416 Barret will shoot better at distance. Way better. 5 moa, vs 1 moa, your call.

The barret is bad ass and all. But you could be that guy at the shooting range with a belt fed gun!

(i'd totally buy a barret money allowing)

While yes their are better guns and better things to spend that kind of money on I would never discourage anybody from buying any gun.
