Are the tubes of the bumpers capped off or plugged some how or are they just left open?

What brand of bumper are you asking about? It will be different from manufacturer to manufacture

I was going to have one made my a local shop that I know doesn't cap their ends. I was just wondering if the ones my by mobtown or brute force were capped. Those are basically what he local shop basis their design around.

The bottom tube on my CBI Dakar isn’t capped but the top is one uninterrupted tube across the bumper and doesn’t have any open ends

Just looked up that bumper. Man, I love the looks of that bumper. So if the bottom tubes are open to the elements, are you ever worried about rain or water going down the tube and rusting from the inside out?

    Stock
End caps can be purchased separately; just buy them and get them welded on.

No, the open end of the tube is at the bottom of the tube, anything that goes in the tube drains out of the tube. Have had the bumper for more than 4 years now and haven’t noticed any issues from it yet.

well when I originally asked this question I had every intention of getting this type of bumper. Then the US off road group buy came along so that is the route I'm going to take. But I guess this thread can now just be useful to someone else in the future I hope.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
If they are not capping the tubes they are just cutting corners. The ends of the tube should be capped on top.

Most of the tubes terminate either at another tube (where it's coped and welded) or at some piece of plate (so no cap needed). The only place it needs to be capped is at the end of the horizontal tube that wraps to the side under the headlight. The end of that tube is capped (as it should be).
