I’ll be visiting my wife’s fiend and husband there next month so I’ll see how that goes- my fist visit. Just so I can avoid making any mistakes not to offend anyone is there anything I shouldn’t say or do? I was going to pack my Hillary for president t shirt- would this be a bad idea?

I guess if, like diesels they were actually held to a smog standard that wouldn’t be realistic- none of them would pass. Like someone previously stated cars are an easy target for pollution but industry was one of the leading causes for our pollution problems. A lot of those business have either left the state or regulated so heavily that they’re now out of business. For me, the few times I see a killer muscle car on the road I’m more in awe of it, but like I said, if it’s stinking me out I just go around them and then admire it from my rear view mirror.

Very much a bad idea. A Hillary for prison t-shirt would be a better choice. Just do the opposite of what California does, except if you are in Austin. It’s just like California.

Perfect thanks for the tip. I’ll only wear it when we drive through Austin and on my way back through I’ll wear my “God hates AR-15’s” shirt. Most importantly I’ll need to remind my wife- “just don’t say anything political; even better just don’t say anything at all”. Her and her mom are total libs. Every time her mom asks about birthday or Christmas gifts I just put either ammo, motorcycle parts and parts for my diesel on my list

Dang that’s a great deal! Wonder if the nearly $4.00 a gallon would be a deal breaker for me to drive down there. If the fuel cost isn’t prohibitive sitting in traffic for a couple of hours may put it over the top. I may have to spend more time looking around for coupons though and maybe if I show them the the guy I use he might match the price to keep my business?

If you literally just google “smog coupon” and your town there’s coupons for nearly every town in the 30$ range

Great point. I’ll keep that in mind when mine comes due in the fall. I see them in the mail occasionally but it’s usually from places that I would never let touch any of my vehicles. I’ll put some pressure on my smog guys to give me a break. He’s just a little hole in the wall place so I do like I want to support the small independent guys- plus I trust him with my cars.

Exactly how I feel about emissions testing in Pennsylvania! And we not only have to get safety inspection in addition to an emissions test, but it's EVERY YEAR!

I love sentiments like this..... if you dont like it, GTFO, stop bitching about it and do something about it. The state definitely has its flaws (as does everywhere), but if you hate it as much as you do... leave, literally nothing is holding you here against your will.

Thank god they are doing smog stuff in diesels now... the whole coal rolling movement is a fucking joke.

While CARB has its major flaws especially going after niche things like the off road motorcycle realm which is minor in terms of emissions..... the SMOG program has kept our air clean with the vast more amounts of cars on the roads... we have populations larger in a single city that most states.

I get it that going and doing a smog check is a pain... but realistically on a newer vehicle you shouldn't have much of an issue. They will plug in their OBD reader and verify everything is checking good and you are done. Like others have stated less than 30 min start to finish.

Sounds like me when I had my 1990 Fox Body mustang heavily modified (but with CARB parts)… it always juuuuuuust barely passed.

On a side note, I think what gets me about CA is the "Smog Abatement" fee attached to your registration costs for those cars 6 years or newer. CA makes you pay a fee even if your car is not required to be smogged. Can't lose out on that smog revenue generation I suppose.

Yeah all that evil soot.... damn them for running a much higher efficiency engine over gas motors.

Oh i have no problem with diesels. They are a great motor. But the coal rolling black clouds of unburnt fuel.... is not efficient.

Try having non-CARB approved mods on your truck when you go in, talk about apprehension lol. I have the URD 7th injector kit installed which isn't CARB approved and technically should fail me, but they don't spot it and wouldn't really unless they knew what it was in the first place.

The big thing is making sure you don't have any CELs on (or pending) and that your emissions system is "ready" according to the ECU. I use the Torque app to check before I go. As long as the system is ready and you don't have any codes you shouldn't have any issue. The place I go to, I'm in and out in 20 min or less.

Just blow some of the good stuff up the exhaust pipe right before you go in for the smoke test and watch the test computer freak out.:thumbsup::D:D
