Has anyone put the rails in our beds onto the tailgate? I have the bed rail mounted bicycle fork mounts but my light bar is on the way. Can't put the bikes sideways because too long. So i was thinking if i could buy another rail and install it on the tailgate. Is the inner panel strong enough?

Maybe with an aftermarket tailgate cap?

The flat top of the tailgate is double wall spot welded together, the rest is very thin single wall.

It is not strong. I've seen quite a few that have dents just from being shut slightly too hard.

There are some great options for tailgate caps already available. That would help distribute the load.

idk how handy you are but you can always slap a sheet of metal over the area and weld/rivet it on for extra support and then put the rail on it

I'd have zero concerns with mounting something like that on the RelentlessFab aluminum tailgate plate.

Go buy a $4 piece of rubber mat from Lowe’s, drape it over your tailgate, and put your front bike tire over it and turned to the side. Great way to transport a bike.
