SOLD - This is my 1996 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4 with a sunroof. I am located just north of Indianapolis, Indiana. Truck has just over 301k miles. I’ll just get this part out the way, the head gasket is blown but the truck will still start up and drive. I have owned the truck for 3 years and meticulously maintained and serviced it. Truck came from California where it spent 21 years there before the previous owner moved to Indiana and sold it to me. The frame on this truck is solid!

    Mods:

-3 inch Old Man Emu lift

    -Total Chaos Upper Control Arms

    -All Pro Baja front bumper

-All Pro skid plates (needs new tabs put on front bumper to install which I have those)

    -4x Innovations Rock sliders

-Custom bed rack built to hold a RTT, has a hi-lift jack mount and quickfists on it as well

-Pro Comp 97 Series 15x8 wheels wrapped in 33x12.5 Falken Wildpeaks

    -CS144 Alternator upgrade

    Maintenance:

-OEM LBJs, inner and outer tie rods, and Energy Suspension lower control arm bushings installed at 254k

-Differentials and t-case fluids at 248k

-Timing belt and water pump at 249k

-Spark plugs and wires at 258k

    -OEM Carrier Bearing at 261k

-OEM Valve cover gaskets at 261k

-Energy Suspension Steering rack bushing at 287k

-Front brakes and rotors at 298k

-Oil changes roughly every 3k-5k with Mobil 1 full synthetic and usually a Mobil 1 filter

-Greased u-joints every 10k or so

-Fluid Filmed the inside and outside of the frame and underbody every fall to protect the frame from rust

-Brand new battery installed the day before the head gasket blew

    Pros:

-solid frame which is tough to find on these first gens

-well maintained (I have a binder of receipts for parts and stuff I bought for it)

-solid build that just needs a head gasket to be back on the road

-various spare parts (OEM front bumper, corner lights (was going to relocate turn signals to them but never got around to doing it), OEM fuel filter, OEM steering wheel and air bag and various other small parts

-Falken Wildpeaks with good tread left

    Cons:

    -blown head gasket

-seats under the covers are pretty torn up

-no carpet (previous owner removed it, makes it easier to clear imo)

-hood has rock chips in it

-center console and driver side arm rest area need some help

-steering column cover has cutout for ScanGauge 2 (could be a plus if you wanted to install one, easy part to source and replace though)

-windshield is cracked across the bottom but is out of the line of sight

-previous owner told me the AC wasn’t working so he cut the belt; I never investigated it but he said it was squealing even with a brand new belt

I am sure I am missing something but I tried to be thorough. Let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them. I am asking $4,000 but am open to reasonable offers.

    no hurry!

i would like a good rain here in Nebraska, it has not rained nor snowed much for 3 months, yet they wanna salt the roads for an inch or less of light snow
the rain is needed to wash all the salty haze off the streets if you know what i mean!

Oh I know what you are saying. Thats why I have been so diligent with undercoating the hell out of this truck from day one it was in my possession.

wish i was closer than a 600 mile drive (Denver is closer)
i like checking out the real old models (very hard to spot these days) around this region that did not have the frame warranty deal and were crushed or now ending up in salvage yards

She okayed the newer 2017 Tacoma I got to daily. She is pretty lenient. I have a motorcycle, my cobra and the tacomas. I decided not to push my luck with keeping this one. She already said I could keep it if I sell one of the other toys.

Finally was able to snag a couple pictures for you @GQ7227. Brand new battery. PO did the deck plate mod. The wiring you see on the firewall is for the ditch lights that I had put in 2ish years ago and they are relayed and fused (I had plans to get a BlueSea and install it this summer but the HG blew). Other than that it is all stock. Little dirty from a Hoosier National Forest trip late last year.

I appreciate it. I tried to just lay it all out there. No reason not to tell potential buyers everything beforehand. I don't want to waste their time or my time.

is it near impossible to swap out the motor with a 4cyl 95.5 and change the tranny config?

a 1st gen in Michigan lost his AZ transplant taco due to a freak winter accident, (frame was tweaked) he has not had much success with finding a replacement with a frame as good as this one appears

I am not 100% certain but I believe everything is all the same on the frames and bodies for the two. Just different motor and tranny mounts between the two.

How did you learn HG had blown and how long has it been? How much coolant is it eating right now?
