What’s up guys- anyone run into this on 2020 or any other year? I have 2020 with 6K . Just replaced cab filter with K&N this Sunday . And I still get that odd funk when kick on AC? Wtf?

I know in the past on my 13 Taco I’ve used the cab filters with odor eliminator and didn’t help much . Any info/ suggestions great .

    thanks!

Haha i doubt- I checked and I’ll check when I get home. The smell is only present during initial start of AC. It’s the same smell I had in previous cars- maybe it’s me just being picky ? It’s not crazy bad smell- just thought with truck being so new- I wouldn’t get this smell till way down the line?

I get it too. Just hit 7k miles. I turn my ac off a couple minutes before I turn my truck off. And I always run recirculated air.

I put my heater on high and sprayed Lysol on the intake, by the cowl. Seemed to work for a good bit. The smell will come back and I'll repeat

Run the AC on full blast with fresh air on and spray lysol whatever smell you like into the windshield cowl intake vents for like 30 secs into each vent. Then repeat with full heat it will disinfect any little mildew in the hvac system i do this almost every spring and works like a charm and have done this to multiple vehicles

Running the A/C on recirculate will do that. You need to turn the recirculate off at least a few minutes before you turn the truck off. That way the vent is open to the outside air and the condensation can evaporate out, instead of being trapped in their growing funk until the next time you turn it on.

The Funk is Mildew and Lysol is the correct answer, this is a common complaint in the southern states, especially during the summer with new car owners. Set the knobe to recirculate and the blower on Hi, and aim the Lysol can at the R.F. floor ( Passenger side ) and give it hell. this is the main intake for the A/C give it 48hrs and repeat. and do replace the filter in the back of the glovebox at about 7500 miles, I don't remember what Toyota says about mileage but your nose is a good indicator when it should be changed.

You forgot to tell people to take the cabin filter out before you induce Lysol into the fresh air intake.

I've had 12 tacoma's, 7 turd gens, its normal if you don't turn off the recirculate button. learned the hard way after my first 17, gotta let the line get some fresh air otherwise mold grows and builds up in the line causing the foot smell.

I live in Fl. Run AC year 'round, always on recirc, never shut off in advance.

Only time I've ever had funk on any of many vehicles of varying marquees is when there is either a clogged/partially clogged drain hose or when debris has worked its way into the evap case. Like leaves, pine needles, etc. Or I bought one that had lived with a smoker. (I've been fortunate to miss the rat patrol)

Would seem odd to have a clogged drain on a new truck, but it's possible to have debris.

Even if you don't have debris at the moment, and the 'recirc off' is the magic trick you need, you don't want to get debris either. Or vermin. So take the preventative steps to help that out.

Good video didn't know they had the foam stuff you can spray through the evap drain. That video did give me flashbacks back to tech school... Flat monotone voice technical videos back to back were the worst
