I've been kayak fishing for a few years. My best advice would be to find a reputable dealer and demo several brands/styles before committing to a purchase.

I recently purchased a 19 hobie outback that I'm currently transporting on my bed. I want to invest on a roof/bed cap rack so I can transport it on top as I believe it would be much safer and also I want to be able to use the inside of the bed for other things. Can you describe or show who you get your kayak on to the roof and strap them down, is it difficult?

Hi it’s a copy of the prinsu top rack and it’s strapped on with ratchet straps with pool noodles under it. I only transport it this way on very long trip. This trip was 500 miles each way. Being a smaller guy I have found getting it up there was very difficult solo. If you do try to load it solo ensure u have some sort of vertical post to keep the kayak from sliding off the side while u try to slide it up from the rear. That is my biggest concern when loading solo.

I rigged a roller on the very back end of my prinsu rack. It helps roll stuff onto the rack easily. I push it onto the roof rack from the back and then I climb on top and set it in the holders and strap it down. The biggest pain is just crawling up onto the roof. A trailer would be easier to load and carry multiple kayaks and gear if I’m going with friends. But then I’d have to store the trailer. I don’t have room for that now unfortunately.

I can carry 3 kayaks on my Malone trailer, with the collapsible tongue it stores upright and I can still get both vehicles in the garage.

Not at all, basically drop hoop nets (I use promar ambush nets) baited with left over salmon heads (anything will work). Drop them where u find structure and cross your fingers. Not much to it.

That was actually a by catch as I was out looking for lobsters. I typically throw those things back but this it was big enough to make cooking it worth while.

Just picked up an SS127 in the new sandstorm color. We fish above Buchanan and everything in-between down to bent creek.

Caught a few walleye out of my outback Thursday evening. Finally tried out my new idea seat and it worked great. I'll post a pic later on. Water was pretty rough from the wind but the Hobie handled it very well.

Awesome. Your kayak is just sitting on a flat surface? No kayak saddles? I’d haven’t done any long trips, but I’d love to get it on the topper when I do. Mine is also a Hobie and those storage and transport instruction in the manual are cryptic as heck. I know I can flip the boat upside down on the crossbars. I want to try the first lake I ever fished as a kid. The event that hooked me on fishing. This lake is near Tucson.

For what it’s worth, take it or leave it, but I had a rep for Bonafide kayaks tell me that all kayaks should be hauled hull down because of you haul hull up it will warp and cause tracking issues.

    :notsure:

I was told the same thing and have always hauled mine the right side up. Dunno if it true or not, but seemed reasonable at the time

The seat rips in the bonafide or the ascend?

    I have a bonafide RS117 on order.
