Drove all around today to check out a few places. Probably forgetting some already. Started down the 200 and stopped at a few small town to take a quick peak at the water/river. Made it to Montana! This section of Idaho is way too small. Montana is WOW amazing. So many trees. So many mountains. So many white people.

Stopped at a town named Plains to get some directions. Thought about going north towards the Glacier National Park since the pictures made it look amazing. Right before making the turn I saw a line of RVs headed north and decided to skip that one this time. Maybe next time I’m around I’ll aim for a weekday and it might not be too busy.

Decided to stay on the 200 and try for the National Bison Range in hopes of some bison viewing. Mmmm steak!! Lol I didn’t see any so I continued towards the 93 to the 90 towards Missoula. Nothing really stood out. Just great views all around. Really hard to compare one to the other when everything is so nice.

Once in Missoula, I got some gas and a sandwich and hit the 200 again. Decided to stop and drive up the Blackfoot river for some fishing. Not much biting mid day. Seems like everyone here fly fishes. Never tried it but looks fun. Finished up lunch and hung out for a bit by the river.

Hit the road again onto the 200 in search of a camp site. I thought that Browns Lake might be a good spot for the night. When I was driving in I saw two bald eagles flying over the road. First ones I have seen on the trip. Got to the campground and too many RVs again. The place feels like an island with just grass and a few trees and lots of RVs. Nice place to fish off a kayak or boat though.

Decided to keep going since the $12($18 without fishing license) seemed a bit high for a place I didn’t like at all. Decided to check out the Blackfoot Canyon Campground. This place is really nice if you get a good spot. I got one with a small trail that goes right to the river with a rocky beach. Best part is that it’s free(second favorite F word). Got some firewood and cooked me some steak, corn, and sweet potatoes.

Note to self: Drink more water. Beer doesn’t count. For real.

Wow this place is big. So many places to go. Decided to follow the 200 for a while and see where it takes me. Took me to the 89 then to the 87. Grabbed some groceries and a quick bit and headed down the 89 again towards the National Forest. Not much along the road to see but the Forest had plenty of campsites and I checked out most of them. Most seemed to be right next to the highway so it was loud. Also the river seemed a bit too small. Campsites were nice if you’re in an RV I suppose. Stopped at the memorial falls trail to take the dog for a little walk in the woods. He likes places where he can just run around everywhere. So dumb and free.

Drove all the way through without finding any great spots and drove into White Sulfur Springs. I noticed they had two campsites in town and drove by. They both suck. They look like someone’s front lawn next to the road. Back to the woods! I decided to go east towards and Forest with a campsite that wasn’t too far in. It was the Grasshopper campground which was really nice . 10$ for the night seemed reasonable. Stream right next to the campsites was awesome. No one else at the campsite so I had the pick of any spot.

Really really nice night there but got woken up around 5 by the rain. Looked like the stream might be flood soon as well so I got out of there early.

Drove back towards town to get phone service and received some bad news about the mother in law. Just like that I am headed south and back home. Shit. Down the 89 to the 86 to the 191. Trying to avoid going into Yellowstone since I’ve been all through there and don’t want to deal with tourists. Got back into Idaho in time for lunch at a small pizza place. Took the 20 to the 33 to the 26 to get me to my campsite at the Lava Flow Campground.

Driving through the desert and looking at rain falling far away is so calming. I got into the place right around 4 which seemed like a bit late for this place. All the really nice spots were taken and I got the very last spot in the campground. Right next to the entrance/pay-booth. Didn’t really bug me but there were better spots. Luckily I was behind some rocks so it wasn’t too windy all night.

The plan is to start in the SF Bay Area and head south. First stop will most likely be in Joshua trees national national park for the night. After that I would like to head East. I have some friends to visit in Huston and would like to make it to the Mississippi and head north towards Missouri to visit some friends out there.

Anyone have some good stop/hiking suggestions? I’ll be takin my girlfriend, dog and girlfriends brother. Would like to keep it off the grid as much as possible and do some rootin and shootin when possible. Will be driving my pre runner and pulling a small fiberglass camping trailer
