Hey guys. I have a 2011 base 2.7L 6lug. It has 300k kms. Still has the original blue/yellow bilsteins on it (atleast I'm pretty sure as they say Toyota bilstein... this might be a question for you guys also). Fyi - they are still going and I'm very surprised...

Anyway, I have a set of shocks with low kms that I got off a 2012 trd off road. My goal is just for ride comfort so I figured these off roads might be my best bet. Not going for a lift at all. My question is, is there a difference in the bilsteins I have on my 2011 Base now compared to the 2012's Trd off roads? Is it just the coils or valving? I'm wondering this because they look so similar visually.
I have looked around for an answer with no luck. Not trying to spend much more in this truck as I plan to sell and get a double cab in the next year or two.

    Thanks folks.

I would get a 3rd gen take-off. You can usually get low mileage front (fully assembled) and rear for around $250 from a 3rd gen guy putting on a lift.

I would recommend getting it off the TRD Off-Road if you want a smoother ride, if you want better handling get then TRD Sport suspension. Either way the front will raise about 1"-1.5" as well.

Yeah. I figured that route is best. However, I already have the 2012 off road shocks on hand. Also, seems hard to come across these parts in Canada lol.

Just not sure what exactly the difference is between the 2 trucks ? They look the exact same.

Your truck came with black shocks, someone put those bilstiens in.

Only sport and O/R have the yellow. It will ride better, but I'd look for new shocks off a 2016+ model as well.

Oh really? Could very well have. I thought the 2011 base would just come with the stock Toyota bilsteins.

    Thanks!!

My truck is a 2015 TRD Sport and I installed TRD Off-Road from a 2017 iirc. The 3rd gen suspension was revalved a little bit to refine the ride over the 2nd gen. Also with a higher spring rate than the 3rd gen, thats where the small lift comes from. But it isn't a worse ride due to stiffer springs like one would imagine. The magic is in the shock/strut valving. The Off-Road suspension is quite a bit smoother overall.
