I haven't had any luck chasing this down....
I emailed Bestop and they simply said "Our topper will not fit on the truck with the Retrax cover."

I think one would need to buy the Topper and build out some custom bracketing to hold to the T-slot and see what happen, But would be a big investment without knowing for sure.

I found a cheap one on craigslist, going to try this exact thing during my december time off. Company does a shutdown during December, so I'll have some time to mess around in the machine shop

Wanted to do a 1 month followup. It's been on the truck at freeway speeds for ~3000 miles now and holding up well.

    How I did it:
-Mounted 4 t-slot screws through each side of the bestop side rail
-Secured with 2 nuts locked against each other per screw (Nylock would be great, but rotates the t-screw, and is hard to work with)

    Pros:
-Super dry. Having this above retrax has kept my things dry through multiple Olympic National Park rainstorms
-Can still easily haul things. I hauled a queen mattress in my short bed with it. It was leaning against the side supports of the Bestop, but was secure. No bending.
    -Very easy to setup.

    Cons:
-Back window doesn't seal over the tailgate because it is slightly elevated. When I camp in it, I just cram a towel into the gap. No real solution for driving though
-Needed to cut down the crossbar that goes across tailgate by ~1.5". This was needed because retrax t-slot is slightly narrower across than mounting without retrax
-Cutting that bar down makes it virtually un-sellable, so you have to be in it for the long haul

    Hi,

I was day dreaming about this set up and did some searching online. Found this thread. I’ve been struggling a bit with the wet weather capabilities of my Retrax cover. I’m in CA where I’m not dealing with a ton of rain and the security and low profile of the Retrax is nice most of the year. Having something more weather proof with some more protected gear space for weekend trips is what I’m after though.

Curious if you might be able to post some pics of your t-slot set up and mods? Your description makes sense but would be helpful to see.

The set up still going strong?

For that gap up front, I can see how this would be given the drop in the Retrax there. Did you see if there might be some rubberized weather stripping in the right thickness or is the gap just too big? And despite the gap, it keeps water out fine while driving?

    Thanks!
