Not saying my write up is the best, by any means. But I think it's got some useful info. If you have other questions, I'd be happy to try and help

I did it over two weeks with zero prior mechanical knowledge. If you know what you’re doing it’ll take you a single day.

If you really want to do a 4x4 swap you need to understand how it works. What manual hubs are, ADD, J-Shift, differences between 4HI, 4LO, etc. Don’t think there are any videos about the conversion specifically.

I'd say you can do it over a weekend... wouldn't say you could do it in a day. Lot's of time consuming shit on it.

I could see someone who really knows what they were doing and had all the tools and knowledge could do it in a day if they had help. The book hours on transmission R&I and the other various components clock in well under a work day.

I had 4 very competent people helping me... took every bit of an entire weekend.

I'd tell anyone (no matter the experience level) to budget at least a full weekend to do the swap.

Are there really only 2 company options for rear tire and jerry can swing out err bumpers for the first gen? Both are $2k. Any other options out there besides messaging a member of the forum? There has to be right?? Am I just missing it?

Even if there were more options available, I don't see any of them being any cheaper. Swingout bumpers have always been expensive from every vendor, for every generation of Tacoma.

Only realistic cheaper route is to find one used or get design/build one yourself or with a friend that welds.

Coastal Offroad now has two different DIY plate bumpers. They very recently released the closed top DIY bumper. It has some similarities to the open top.

I'm having a hard time deciding between these two Coastal bumpers and the 4xi plate bumper.

I have ordered a 4xi plate bumper and plan to fab up my own tubing for the light/grill. I really like way Shrockworks and ARB does the tubing and plan to so something similar.

Me too.... mainly because I'm not sure I will ever get a winch.

Can anyone tell me what company made these bumpers? They were on the Tacoma when I bought it.

Never seen that one before, wonder if it was a custom set? No brand engraving anywhere?

I haven’t seen any marking anywhere but I will take another good look around them. I have been kind of thinking they might be a custom set. I am not sure how old they are either.

I've studied 1st gen front bumpers ALOT over the past few months. I'm pretty sure the front is not from a known mfr. The rear resembles a few different ones that look familiar(Relentless is one of them; I'm positive it's not).
