I bought a Whaler late last fall, and the previous owner had it winterized before I picked it up (which was fine with me). But the marina she had it worked on is a solid 2 hours away if I trailer it back there.

Is there any advantage bringing it back to the place that winterized it to prep it for the season? Next year I'll definitely do it local (there's many places here in seacoast NH to have this done), but I'm not sure what to do this year.

Nice choice of boat. What's it got for a motor?

As for bringing it back to life.... Batteries should have been disconnected, fuel drained, or topped off to minimize condensation, and stabilized.

For the motor, knowing what it is would be helpful... But, look at the plugs, did they replace one or 2 with desiccant that look like spark plugs? I generally replace my 3 annually.
Fuel filter, water separator. Replace and make sure the water separator drain valve is closed.

Is it a 2 stroke? Pre mix or oil injection? Is there an oil reservoir on the engine itself. If there is, that's likely filled from a larger tank and pumped to the motor as needed.

I'm no expert but I'm keeping a '91 Merc 60 alive and have a few friends that have or had boats.

In other words: I know enough to get in trouble. I haven't to bad though thankfully.

Good luck bringing it back to life. You should bring it up the Merrimack river sometime. Knock on wood that I'm out there in the not too distant future.

I was up there the other day and the docks are out at the cashman park boat launch.

It's got a 70hp suzuki 4stroke. I think mid 2000's. I actually brought it to a guy who was recommended by a friend with teh exact same boat as me. I might have given teh wrong impression, but it's very well maintained. the previous owners kept meticulous records, and the motor has less than 200 hours on it. it

I will have it Great Bay in Newington (in their yard on teh trailer), but do have in my head to bring it to Newburyport and fish in Joppa come June. I used to kayak fish in Joppa many moons ago.

Nice! Getting it ready should be a piece of cake.
