If you don’t care about spending a tad bit extra, go with AMSOIL signature or XL 0w-20, out performs any mobile 1.

You can get a jug of Mobil1 for around $11 or $12 after the rebates they do all the time, even if it does manage to outperform it would not be enough to cover the price difference.

That’s not true. The most expensive oil will always outperform! Always! That’s why Supertech users are morons! Your engine will be sad and only crave the best! It knows! Your engines know!

LOL yeah doesn't matter what they put in the oil. Oil is oil. My go to is Wesson canola super clear (the clearer the better right!) and on sale at Shoprite. It's GMO so full synthetic.

Yeah it’s amazing how they got Supertech approved for use. I heard it was made of waste oil, the toe nail clippings of Walmart employees, and the tears of oil brand loyalists. Horrible stuff!

It's as if specs are different and API SN+ is the most basic engine oil spec there is. GM dexos1 is the next most basic, then ACEA is better, followed by BMW, MB, VW etc... but you know facts schmacts

BTW Supertech didn't get anything approved. The additive company did through their market general pack. All Warren does is blend it in a bottle with Group III base oil and VM. We can actually buy it and make SnoPickles SN+ dexos1 0W-20 in your bathtub and be API SN approved.

That said you are still right in that any cheap crap can work in our engines. Toyota makes an unkillable engine.

It’s also worked just fine in numerous Hondas, fords, subarus, and gm vehicles from my family’s vehicles. I think the merit is more so in the quality of the oil, and not specifically our Tacoma engines. In my trucks specifically I’ve had 600k cumulative miles on the 3 with no issues. What’s funny is that my engine still ran just fine in my 1st gen before the frame gave way to rust...

I don't doubt you, but I think also this new breed of engine oil is very different when a mass marketer gets involved. It's literally the cheapest possible bid with the cheapest ingredients to still make a 0W-20 SN+ I've never seen such low end stuff in my career. It does still last 10k though but still... dang these companies are getting cheap.

It is a good oil. Meets specs but I suspect it "just" meets them. I can buy 6liters (quarts) of Toyota Oil , a Toyota Oil filter and a crush washer for just under $50 CDN ($35 USD) at my local dealer. Not going to get much better. If they come out with a Euro Spec 0/20 full synthetic Pennzoil Ultra I may change but till then I will stick with the Toyota Oil.

I run Amsoil in everything. Might not be worth it to some but I have no complaints and don't see myself changing brands in the future. That being said, change fluids on a regular basis with with what ever you want. Some oils may be better than others but everything on the market thats 0w20 will do the job if you change them out when your supposed to.

If my Prius self-identifies as a truck, can I use this oil?

Stop it. Even if Mobil 1 was free you would still go out of your way to buy supertech.

If it was free? Nah. Wouldn’t matter with my 5k mile intervals anyways. No brand loyalty here, just whatever’s on sale or cheap. My vehicles must just spite me.

Mobil1 has quite a bit of auto manufacturer's support. GM specifies Mobil1 for the LT1 and LT6 C7 Corvette engines. Mobil1 actually developed a 0w-40 Dexos2 full synthetic specifically for the Corvette so same oil could be used for street or track. Previously, GM specified 5w-30 for street use and 15w-50 for track use.
