Hey guys well i am not a NOOB here by any means having been lurking since '13 anyway i am new to the S/C game and trying to learn from everyone here and while i have read almost every tune thread i could find i like everyone else wanted to start my own thread to have my specific question answered and hopefully make it easier for others in the future to understand....

That being said. a little about my truck before i get into why i want to tune this.

2012 DCSB Tacoma 4.0V6 TRD Supercharger with TRD flash (done at the dealer)
Truck is heavy as it is setup for long term remote travel (Overlanding)
    Re-geared to 4.56 - running 35x12.5r17 Tires
Currently with 125k on the odometer I am replacing idler pulley's, belts and tensioner pulley on the S/C in prep for my Alaska trip coming up in July I want to make sure the truck is running 100%.
I am looking to delete the Secondary Air injection pump assembly from under my hood saving all those horsepower haha Really just looking to get rid of it before it fails and leaves me stranded.
I have the AFR/Boost gauge and Gauge pod on order to go in when i do this refresh in a week or so.

Is there a way to make my Ultragauge stop showing my engine is going to 120% load when i go full throttle? It is way off with the tune from the dealer.

    Tune Needs:
    Delete SAI
    Correct TRD parameters for power/performance

Beautiful truck! I dig the topo wrap!

I'd be happy to assist you with your needs and get you squared away if HPTuners is the way you'd like to go.

Regarding your question about the Ultragauge.. The supercharged calibrations will report higher than 100% load. I'm not intimately familiar with the Scangauge and if it's scanning Calculated Load or Absolute Load, but in any event, the TRD S/C will produce airflows at specific RPM's/throttle positions which exceed that of what is possible at atmospheric pressures, and thus will exceed 100% load.

If your curious Calculated/Absolute Load can be computed by:

    Calculated Load = [Current Airflow] / [(Peak Airflow at WOT@STP as a function of rpm) * (BARO/29.92) * SQRT(298/(Ambient Air Temp+273))]
    *STP = Standard Temperature and Pressure = 25 °C, 29.92 in Hg

Absolute Load = [Air Mass (g / intake stroke)] / [1.184 (g / intake stroke) * Cylinder Displacement in Litres]

Nah! Don't beat yourself up over that! Some things just make more sense in a 0-100% framework.

Biggest tips/tricks I could recommend based on lessons learned from tuning nearly 100 2nd Gens of this forum would be the following, in no particular order:
    • Confirm your battery is in a good state of health and or have measures in place to ensure you can maintain 12.0+ volts during the flashing process. (from the pics, your setup looks more than adequate!)
    • Turn off all sources of current draw while flashing (Fan, Dome light, Radio, Intercooler pump, etc.) and leave them off during the flashing process.
    • Don't kink or too tightly bend/wind the supplied USB cable that goes between the MPVI2 and your laptop. I've had one fail from careless handling which can cause problems with the flash failing.
    • You cannot harm your ECU by "reading" the tune or doing any datalogging.
    • Keep up to date with the latest software releases. In the past, staying with the most current Beta release was the best option as they had improved the reflashing process and had enhanced PIDs available to log. But they've just released v4.6 of their full build which contains all of those features that premiered in the earlier Beta versions.
    • Licensing.. Licensing is tied to the Calibration ID and the programmed VIN in the ECU. This means that you license a particular Calibration ID and VIN, not the physical ECU itself. So should anything happen to the originally licensed ECU, you can replace it with a new/used ECU with the same Calibration ID and have the VIN reprogramed to match your truck and you can use your existing license to reflash the "new" ECU without incurring any additional fees.
Regarding pricing, you can find the HPTuners MPVI2 pretty much anywhere (eBay, Amazon, Summit Racing, HPtuners, you name it..). Price will vary slightly but the MPVI2 unit itself is in the ~$299 ballpark. But to write a tune back to the truck, you'll need to license your ECU which requires 4 universal credits from HPtuners. I encourage folks to just buy them direct from HPTuners. Some websites offer slight discounts but I've heard of more than a few stories where folks bought from 3rd party vendors (for credits) and had to wait for them to be credited to their device. When purchasing them directly from HPTuners you have instant access them. The credits are ~$50/ea.

Some folks who like to really squeeze the most of out their supercharger opt to also get the Pro feature set with their unit, so they can log external analog sensors such as a wideband or MAP (Boost) sensor. This isn't necessary, but can be helpful if you're really trying to maximize every ounce of performance of your setup. Great thing is, you don't have to purchase it at the time you buy your MPVI2. You can add it after the fact if you decide to take your tuning to the next level.

I do offer tuning services for folks which include refinement and remapping in the fueling tables, ignition tables, VVTi tables, Throttle remapping, ACIS (for N/A Trucks) remapping, Torque request maps, shift scheduling, torque converter lockup/release and shift pressures (Much thanks to @nd4spdbh for his work with the transmission) as part of the standard baseline tune. The tune and support are $50.

If as you mentioned, you need "offroad specific" features or customization I'm happy to work with you at no additional costs.

OP, what a good looking truck.

Like JustDSM stated, he is the man to go to for an engine tune. He has tuned my truck and it has been running great for almost the full year that HPTuner has supported the taco (man how time flies). I have been slowly revising my transmission tune and am currently on a v12 revision to the public, which JustDSM includes in his tunes.

As far as discussion of SAI delete. This can ONLY BE DONE ON A TRUCK THAT IS STRICTLY DRIVEN OFF ROAD DUE TO EMISSIONS REASONS.

Dude!! You are the man! Now as far as this tune goes and having you set one up for someone what is involved as far as installing and such? Send the ECU off to you?

If you send the ECU to me, you can forgo the cost of the MPVI2 and save yourself $299. Going that route, the out of pocket cost will be $275 (return priority mail shipping + insurance included).

If you can go without the truck for a few days this is the absolute cheapest way to get all the benefits without having to incur the cost of the module. I tune the ECU's the day they arrive and have them back in the mail the following morning!

[Edit]As far as installation goes, if going this route, all you have to do is plug the ECU back in and fire the truck up. Tune will be in effect from that point forward.[/Edit]
