Good day at the shop again. Both of us were on the tail end of a busy weekend, so we moved a little slow, but we still got some stuff done.

Made a little adjustment on the door, then worked on polishing the corners. Most of them are done, then we'll glaze and sand. No pictures of the pit because it didn't really look much different in pictures.

We did get Maner's pit fired up for some pork belly, sausages, and bacon.

For our break we had a little treat. I never thought I could feel so classy with a nose full of metal dust and greasy hands.

All I know is that if the shit really hits the fan, I'm headed to the Maner Compound.

I've been meaning to try the Quinta Ruban sunce they changed it from 12 to 14 year old. How'd you like it? I had the Lasanta not so long ago and thought it was pretty good.

It's really quite nice. Very rich and full bodied (as a port finished scotch should be). Plum notes throughout, both on the nose and palate. I like the way Maner pours, too. We might have had a couple ;).

Does this mean he pours heavy, or does he have some sort of pomp and ceremony? :drunk:

I meant that he pours heavy, but now I kind of want a little song and dance next time I'm out there.

I was thinking something like letting the cap breathe, and then talking in a high falutin accent. Maybe pouring it into the cup in a weird way.

Personally I was thinking something like a cross between Fred Flintstone bowling and Swan Lake.

No, no, no....trust me. You absolutely did it the right way. The bar has been set, my man. Anything below the pig's nose is unacceptable.

We got a LOT done the last couple of days. My ass was draggin' when I got home last night, so I didn't get the updates in. Here you go, though.

Added tabs to the door to mount a sign. I haven't decided what is going there, yet, but it'll be something.

On Maner's wise advisement, I put a handle on the other side as well. Now this big 'ol bitch is easy to move around from either side.

Funny sidebar here that followers of the @Bigdaddy4760 thread already heard about - I was welding wearing the jeans that caught fire from the angle grinder some months back. While welding, a spark lept from the pit, flew in the hole in my jeans, burned through my briefs, and singed the 'ol duffle bag. @Pandaman59 was grinding something and @Bigdaddy4760 & @SuperBad were chatting on the other end of the shop, so they missed my high energy dance that attempted to quell the pain. Here's evidence from the briefs.

Maner got about 3/4ths the way done on a special project for my daughters. I got to learn the plasma cutter to help bring it to the finish line.

    It's an adjustable height grill!

The huge milestone we've been waiting for finally came. We were ready to lay some paint down on my pit. First thing, though, was a pour of Glenmorangie Signet. This is quite simply the best whisky the world has ever known. I describe as nothing other than the juice of a honeydew melon dripping from the nipple of an angel.

We taped off anything that was NOT going to be quicksand so that we could hit the accent color. Basically, we were painting the exhaust stack, fuel chute curb, handles, and shrouds for the dials.

    First layers down:

There are some more pours in there somewhere, but that mostly finishes out Friday.

On to Saturday. Got to going on the main color. We taped off all of the accent pieces, so, unfortunately, we there aren't any pics of the accent and the base color together, but those are coming. Maner hitting the top:

Hitting the front door (don't worry, I do some work in here, too ;)):

    I got to painting:

The color is absolutely AWESOME. Spot on for what I was looking for. I'm thrilled with what it'll look like once it gets show against the quicksand accents. We had a couple trouble spots where the paint ran on us, so we'll do a little paint correction there. Some wetsanding and a light spray will have it looking choice. Then we can clear coat. The color, though....damn it's nice. Pics make it look a little redder than it dried to. I'm absolutely thrilled with it.

To celebrate, a little more angle nipple dew:

Me, @Bigdaddy4760, @Pandaman59, @SuperBad, @Naveronski (he replaced his uniballs today):

Missing some progress pics, but we fabbed a handle, a stop, a hanger for a grill scraper, and the exhaust, then got the girls' grill ready for paint:

Painted up with the girls' favorite colors:

Long goddamn way to get to this point, but so worth it. Me and Maner having a pour to celebrate finishing the girls' grill and getting paint on the big pit.

    Love this guy:

The girls don't know anything about the grill, but they are coming out to Camp Maner tomorrow. We'll reveal it to them both then. I plan on getting it on video and will post up here. They are gonna be SO excited - especially Stella. She's the only one that's been out there and is telling her little sister Claire and momma what to expect. She wants to weld, too, so we'll find some metal to melt. It's gonna be a great day tomorrow.
