Recorded this a while ago. Video finally got done recently. Did the mix, mastering and producing too.

Gorgeous piece of music. "The most beautiful 3 minutes of your life" as my boss put it.

Recording was done in DXD using Grace m802 mic pre amplifers in Auro3D.

Front three mains are DPA 4006a's
Rear surround mics are DPA 4041a's
Front Heights are DPA 4006a's with 50mm APE's
Rear Heights are Schoeps MK2H with 20mm Balls

    Violin spot's are Royer SF-2's
Piano spots are DPA 4041a's and some DPA4060's

Piano is Vladimir's Horowitz's and Euguen Istomin's famous CD18 with our New York Action

Done in the Oliver Music Barn at Tippet Rise Arts center as live takes. Edited later together.

Not entirely music related. But I did all the music recording for this anyways haha plus all the other recording and mixing. Cool film. And plus this is where I work!

Not music related per say..just nerdy shit.

I finished building some modules..well okay I built them last June  I even signed them to remember..

But due to the whole COVID stuff, I suddenly had to make a studio in my house. I was of course already doing this but this really expidited the whole situation.

This allowed me to get my I/O all setup and working. Which meant I wanted to get my gear working fast too. I spent some time dialing in my 500 rack and got the PSU up and running which meant I could finally do some calibrations and take some measurements.

This is my ML2 Module. Is basically a reversed engineered API console fade amp stage. Jeff at CAPI sells the kits. I have built 6 so far, 2 are stock and 4 will be modified to make a console I am building.

    PXlvNEt3IJMaM8MEU7Ih0X0BynFyg-C9YMDnv9G8_6dc47d1d3a4180c059afe1fd91352c9cbb102ff8.jpg

But the stock ones needed tested and calibrated.

Calibartion is really just CMRR and trimming the gain on the fader. Super easy.

Then I fired up REW on my computer(Super freaking cool FREE software by the way) and decided to measure the filters.

Here is a 6dB slope for one. Each line is a setting you select when you want, the thing that changes is the frequency the filter pivots on.

    yxuiRm6m9zTDuA1ljCw0Gjd6GIcKbk0gj9lPshKz_ee2c8be33295dbdef6b67a1c567771f980c1a621.jpg

    And here is 12 dB

    dtPs9z_8t19O3MZVyYGEZPULZD1OXaUM8VUx_yjL_b6b8063f7dadd968741f6f8a759aec7e6f7b8122.jpg

    Second unit 6dB

    and 12dB

I've never done this before and actually measured my gear. Super cool to see what is happening. The filters are quite gentle but you can see that they affect a lot of frequencies because they are broad.

The LPF even though they are pivoting at very high freqs you can see that at just 3k you can be down 1dB. That's pretty cool to see.

Same for the HPF. They go up quite high even though the highest freq on the controls is 240hz. This is natural of course and not unexpected.

    Anyways, super nerdy. :p

I don't expect anyone to really dig that but I thought it was cool and wanted to share with someone! ha

So this is pretty big and cool.

    https://tippetrise.org/music-downloads-library

You can download some tracks I've done for free. Be warned! These are High Resolution files so they are quite large. Especially the DXD files. Eventually you'll be able to stream them too via Spotify and Amazon.

I record everything in DXD so you're basically getting the raw audio with that...sort of. I still mix it and it get denoised and is edited.

Right now there are only 3 albums there, two are live concerts which aren't awesome sounding I think sonically due to there being a live audience and it takes a LOT of effort to take out the noise they create. But eventually more will be added that I'm a producer on and engineer. Some really really nice stuff coming in the future.

Also, yes it is all classical chamber music. So be ready for that as well.

    Pretty excited about this project.

This album dropped today titled "Lines made by Walking" and features all original music by the great modern day living composer John Luther Adams. The title piece was commissioned by Tippet Rise and was premiered last summer(also recorded that and will release the live world premiere later this winter). The amazing JACK quartet(I think the best string quartet in the world personally right now) did the performance and my god are they amazing.

I was the recording engineer for this whole album. In a nice way, that's all I did. No other post work which was a nice change of pace. A good friend did the editing and mixing and did a stellar job.

Might not be everyone's cup of tea but it is beautiful to listen to and loose yourself in.

John Adams or John Luther Adams? Haha they are both modern day living composers and both great but very different.

I've actually got to record for both though. Did a symphony piece with John Adams.
