Can't offer any info or advice but digging your first design would be sick to see a finished product. I think as long as side to side weight is even it would work well.

05chaos, sounds awesome. Like I said, my clock may have run out for restarting plans for this trip, but I dig the confidence boost on the next project!

Ginger Taco, not done yet, still can’t promise it will come together in the end, but here’s a couple progress shots

Well here ya go, it works! Holds my weight on the outboard end with no detectable strain. I haven’t added the two outrigger loops that would gain me the underside access that these tents all have because the free tent skin I found on Craigslist fit well on the frame as-is. Maybe I’ll get to that later. For the moment though, time to load up the bike and head to hollister and see how the weight feels.

    2019 Cape Cod National Seashore..

I took my truck with full gear, (bed was stuffed full cooler, camping gear, 3 large storage boxes and extra sleeping bags, 3 passengers and myself, and a whole bunch of stuff in the back middle seat, aired down to 14PSI on the dunes the tacoma did really well on stock sized tires.. with all the passengers, rtt, rack, and other gear I was easily nearing the payload capacity.. @200lbs per passenger and about 400lbs of camping gear, 85lb cooler (cooler/ice, and food), and the RTT 130lbs + rack (40lbs??) easily 1455lbs + of passengers and gear..... and the truck did well in 4LO on the sand dunes.. Pressure over 20PSI on day 2.. it struggled, and bogged a bit more with the higher pressures, but was not as bouncy on the sand.. I now have ofersized tires, and it should float better on sand with taller tires, and a hybrid tread...

@Scott17818 , awesome, that’s exactly the kind of trip report I was looking for, thanks!

unfortunately, the shelter in place is going to put the squash on this trip, but that’s just gonna give me more time to polish (cough) my setup for the next one
