We're going in April & want to know what you think is the best backcountry campsites @ BBNP. We want seclusion, away from other sites & not on the river (due to theft being more prominent down there).
    Thanks!

The most secluded sites are along the river :/

Most backcountry sites are actually fairly well spread apart. Even the ones that are right next to each other are separated by a couple hundred feet. If you look at their trail map https://www.nps.gov/bibe/planyourvisit/maps.htm you can pretty easily see how secluded sites are. La Noria for example, on Old Ore Rd., has two sites that look like they're right on top of each other but there's actually around 200 feet and a hill separating them. Same for Loop Camp which I've also stayed at that has probably 300 or 400 feet separating them.

Are these backcountry sites for camping, first come - first serve or you need to reserve the campsite in advance? Thanks

First come first serve, but only with reservation at the ranger office.

BBNP is now 100% shut down. This sucks. They cancelled my reservation so now there’s no telling where we’ll be able to go. F’ COVID-19.

County has come out and requested that tourists stay away too.

Actually, beginning Feb. 1 2020, you can reserve some back country sites via the website. Not all but @ least ~30 or so.
