He says those recovery boards are Maxtrax but I think they're an off brand? I don't think they're Maxtrax, if they are thats a good deal for those and all the other stuff too. If not then overpriced.

Can confirm it’s this one uurx linked. I’ve use those and maxtrax before, very distinct differences.

 

Thanks guys. I was doing my own searches and hadn't come across those yet. Seller didn't know the brand offhand and was possibly going look into it.
I have another set of knockoffs because I have relatively limited use of them so that didn't matter to me.
@fatfurious2 - chime in/let me know about your interest now that these have been ID'd.

I was mainly referring to the aesthetics standpoint, just that they look different. They also don't stack well at all. We used some the other week in some nasty mud in TN and without meaning to it turned into a traction board shoot out. We used those MAXSA, X-Bull, and maxtrax. X-bull cracked right up the middle. The MAXSA had a bunch of supports on the bottom cracked, but the board was largely still useable. Maxtrax was unscathed. I think it's because the plastic is flexible enough to contour to the terrain a bit when under load.

I have the same cap, and if I had the funds I'd purchase that one as well. It is in nicer shape, and set up better. Since I have one I can't justify grabbing another.

 

Good info to know. I don't know if that will sway me to maxxtrax, but I'm a big fan of buying quality products once instead of cheap 2 or 3 times before switiching.

 

The price is a tough pill to swallow and to be honest, I never would have paid for them initially. I traded someone labor for their set of maxtrax and pins, which is what sold me on them. I'll pick up a second pair eventually now that I've gotten some time with them.

 

Do you know what plastic each uses? I heard Maxtrax uses some proprietary plastic, but I find it hard to believe they created a material that didn’t exist already for the sole purpose of using it for traction boards.

EDIT: There’s probably a small marking on the board itself that calls out the material. On the Maxtrax is might be pretty small and say something like PA6+30GF.

 

I haven't a clue. I've heard it's proprietary as well, but I think that's just something they say to make it sound cool. It's probably just a blend of some other existing plastics. It is effective though.

I've got a set of X-Bulls that are partly broken. I would have considered these for the price plus all the other stuff if they were legit Maxtrax. Where in the HV are you? I'm in Poughkeepsie.

You're right that the difference is noticeable when you actually use them. I've got a set of X-Bulls that I cracked and split on a winter run up in NH. Haven't replaced them yet since they still function, for now. But I will be going with Maxtrax after these blow apart.

 

Whatever it is, it's superior to the knock offs. At first glance I thought there was no way they were that much better than the other brands. But after hearing and seeing first hand all the other brands breaking while the Maxtrax just keep on working, I'm a believer. Not enough to buy them yet, but still a believer.

 

Their website says engineering grade (whatever the fuck that is) reinforced nylon. So I’m assuming it’s pretty standard glass filled nylon for the most part. I think some of the other use ABS. It’s interesting though because Anything reinforced with glass tends to be brittle.
