Im also wondering if a heat gun can be used. I have my tent off currently, because I was working on my rack.

I added some foam that usually goes between a cap and the bed rails - but in between my rack and the bed rails. And now I want to add some protection to my bars. But I wont be taking the tent on/off frequently. It lives on the truck unless major work needs to be done.

This was brought up maybe a week ago I thought in this thread. The guy that was making them isn't any more of I remember correctly. I believe there was a YouTube link to a DIY video. Good luck.

    effective

since I don't have anything better to do atm. I went back. My memory isn't good at all. But we did briefly talk about it. No video, but it doesn't sound all that bad. Cut, heat, form

thats what I was planning on doing. I dont want to buy something that was pre-made. My question was can it be done with a heat gun opposed to an oven?

@fatfurious2 it looked like a heat gun in the pictures of the instructions in the link. Give it a go. If not oven and welding gloves.

Hey ya'll, hope everyone is taking care of themselves and each other with this crazy Covid-19 crisis. I had a question for those who are running a fridge in their camping set up. Are any of you using a separate battery to run the fridge or using the existing truck battery? If you are using a separate battery, can someone point me to a thread or explain how to set up a secondary battery to use for the fridge so I don't suck my existing battery dry when I'm out camping? Thanks, I hope the question wasn't too confusing. Stay safe!

Awesome question! I have this exact setup. Someone just asked me about it today.

    I have:
    - Duracell Group 24M deep cycle battery - $99 + $10 rebate - https://www.batteriesplus.com/product-details/marine_rv/battery/duracell-ultra/sli24mdc
    - Renogy 100W solar panel kit with 30A charge conroller - can get a better price on ebay - https://www.amazon.com/Renogy-Monoc...&qid=1585689207&sprefix=renogy,aps,254&sr=8-3
    - blue sea 6 fuse setup - $35 - https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Sea-Sys...d=1585689293&sprefix=blue+sea+,aps,224&sr=8-2
    - 3 switches for bed lighting etc, and a 12v plug for the fridge - $30 - https://www.amazon.com/Rocker-Switc...=1585689336&sprefix=3+gang+swi,aps,255&sr=8-6
    - battery box, cables, etc - ~$20

I have had this setup for just about a year. Its outside in the weather, and I havent had any issues. Fridge is Dometic CFX50W and on all the time.

    David,

Thanks for sharing that set up, I thought it was going to be super expensive to set up but looks rather doable in price! Now for the follow up question, lol. How is your set up? Everything located in the truck of the bed of did you place the battery in the engine bay and wired everything to the back or wherever your fridge is located? Have any photos of it up on your page? Thanks so much for this info, it really helped!

Everything is in the bed. The second battery is not linked to the engine bay battery. Hopefully these pictures will help you. If not, I can get some better ones tomorrow morning. I drilled some holes in the bed/deleted a cubby for the switch panel, so i could run the wires to the battery. I also want to redo it, as I have the switches wired to a trailer plug harness. I want to get rid of the trailer harness, and wire in the bed lights/accessories directly to the Blue Sea fuse panel - as that is why I have it there.

This is something I want to explore at some point as well. I need to get the wiring up front taken care of and done correctly/professionally. I don't know what I'm doing, and apparently neither did the shop after I've started to educate myself a little. Better weather this week. I believe social distancing camping is going to have to happen tonight or tomorrow. Definitely at some point this weekend.

Was most likely going to be the last trip of the season anyways because temps are climbing fast and the fanged creatures are out as well. Found some good wild flower blooms. 321E2894-C931-4432-A589-7BA7D110EC84.jpg
