2019 18000mi RUST anyone else?

Doesn't look normal, I'd take to a Toyota dealer.
Was this truck ever wrecked? I'm wondering if it's factory flaw, or shoddy repair work?

 

Brand new, never wrecked, original owner. I showed 2 other people at my work who bought a 19 Tacoma and there's is starting to do same thing on the spot welds

 

Where do you guys live?

 

Ohio. Has been very mild winter. Very little salt usage this year

 

I know that the white has paint issues with peeling. Maybe this is an underlying problem. I’d bring it back to the dealer for sure

 

Definitely taking it back, curious as to what they will do? I definitely do not want any sort of rattle can fix!

 

Contact dealership and it wouldn't hurt to also call Toyota CS and document the issue.

 

That's more than surface iron contaminants. That looks like an uphill battle, good luck. I live on the north east coast of Canada, surrounded by the ocean and that is totally unacceptable

At least it's not out on the sides of the truck. To be done right it'll have to be sanded and prepped properly to prevent rust from coming back through the paint

 

I don't think they will.
Rattle can won't fix it, there's more rust below.

 

Take those rear quarters off, sand, rust bullet, paint, reinstall, then fluid film it.

 

This is my first Tacoma and to say the least, not happy. I am aware of the rust issues with frames but was not aware of other rust/paint issues. I have never had any rust / paint issues with any of the other truck brands that i have owned.

Pretty pissed about this, definitely taking to dealer. Have already contacted them. Will be getting ahold of CS. Just wanted to see if anybody else had similar issues?

 

That's not common, I'd give them a chance to fix before you get too wound up. I don't blame you for being frustrated.

 

I will give them a fair shake at it. We will see where it goes from there?

same thing happened to my truck in same location. dealer fixed it same color too

 

I do not understand why they would continue manufacture something the same way and get the same issues year after year?

 

I had the same thing happen on '19 Super White sport this past winter (Northern WI) brought it to the dealer they submitted a claim with Toyota and Toyota paid their body shop to remove the box to repair and repaint it.

I agree it is really frustrating to have this issue on such a new vehicle, but bring it in and get it documented in case more issues come up in the future.
