I’ve got about 600 miles on it now. Just bolted on the front drive shaft. I like the way it drives. I’m loving it. It breaks pretty well. My cruising speed is about 62mph at 2300rpm. Hdydro assist is nice. I don’t know what it felt like without it though. I am going up to my family cabin in 2 weeks so I’ll be able to get it off the pavement.

How’d you like dealing with the RuffStuff kit? Play with any of the 3 link calculators at all? I’m still working on doing my reading while I piece together a set of junkyard f350 axles.

Can’t wait to see your off pavement pics, truck is looking rad!

Ruffstuff parts are awesome. Brest builder parts. I didn’t even take a peep at a link calculator cause I don’t think I would understand It anyways. I just kinda figured out placement lower 2 links and made sure to keep the 3rd link arm the same length so it doesn’t change the pinion angle as much during travel. I think it’s a lot more necessary when 4 linking. It’s been a rewarding process.

Awesome build man! How are the 5.29s with 37s? What kind of rpm does it equate to on the Highway?

    I'm curious as well, I went with 5.13s on 40s but I'm also a 6 speed manual. I run about 2800 at 70mph.

Cool! I'd like to do 37s, but dont want myhhighway rpms through the roof. I saw Bullaculla used 4.88 with 37s.

Nice build. Reading this made for a good way to pass the last couple hours of a slow work day.

I went to slick rock and camped right after the bridge from Utica side last weekend. It was the first time out since the build. Really fun running the trail back and forth. Not many pics. The gauntlet at the lake alpine side was really difficult and loose. Going down isn’t really a problem but up is tough.

What are we kenof the reasons you went with the FJ80 front axle over say the coveted D60?

Would you feel confident running a larger tire on the 80 front?

Why wouldn't you be comfortable running larger tires? A custom built axle with 80 outers, rcv, and 9.5 centered will have no issue turning 40s.

I wanted to keep it Toyota . Fj80 has the largest knuckles and balls of any yota axleS. They can definitely handle 40s. The axle fabricator at ruffstuff industry actuallyruns mini truck 6shooter knuckles on 40s. That has to attest to something. People have been running 40s on mini truck axles forever. I think the failure is more on the stick steering arms than the knuckles themselves. Im going to run hellfire knuckles on my next build. They are even beefier with larger trunion bearings and Beef steering arms.

Hell yeah with the 9.5 no prob. I actually have a 8” high pinion in the front. I have mixed feelings about it. I am super chill on the trail though and don’t see myself going with 40’s. 40’s scare my ring gear a bit.

By the way my truck was totaled. Tboned at a red light. I picked up an 09’double cab short bed super clean inside and out 66,000 miles. It will be getting all of the parts from the access cab. I have my new housing on order (the housing was bent in the wreck)and am on the list for hellfire knuckles.
