I assume that it's plugged in to the port under your A/C controls. That's the only port that has data capabilities. The others are power only.

Well the good news is that you know why you can't change the Startup picture. :)

The bad news is the USB data port isn't working. I'm "guessing" that something isn't plugged in berween the port and the head unit. But that's ONLY a guess.

It's not difficult to pull the head unit to check it out, but may be simpler to just let the dealer fix it. After all, that's what warranties are for.

Similar problem on my ‘20. Head unit would indicate some type of device error at the very top of the screen when I inserted my flash drive. My daughter let me borrow the Sandisk 64gb Cruzer flash drive she uses on her new Pro and no more problems. I can now listen to crappy compressed mp3 files via the dash usb port.

Changing the startup picture is something I never would have thought to look into. There's always useful stuff I find on this forum!

I like the picture, I’m sure it gives your truck a lot of personality.

I do have a friend with what I think is a ‘15 Tacoma, but don’t know anyone with a 3rd gen. I’ll see if I can try out my flash drives on her truck at some point. Thanks for the help I hope I can get it figured out!

i have no direct problems with any of this (all worked for me on 2018 long ago) but i have in the past seen some usb flash drives work while others not in various computer usb ports. PNY usually the culprit. is yours a PNY?

Changing the image doesn't work on the 2020 TRD Tacomas?

My 2020 TRD Sport does not have the option in the options Menu, so looks like we are out of luck. Spent 30 mins making a custom image too T.T

I still can’t get this to work.... I’ve done everything by the book. Only thing I can think of is that my taco doesn’t like the usb I’m using. I’m going to switch usb drives today and see if that works.

I have exhausted all avenues trying to get this start up image changed. I cant see buying even more flash drives. Was a great idea, but I guess Toyota wins this one.

Only thing I can tell you is to be sure the capatalization is correct or it won't work.

Two folders on an empty thumb drive labled:
