Does anyone make a smaller/shorter mud flap than the oem ones for a 2014 Taco?

I just trimmed mine with a dremel (the front ones). Then I took them off entirely.

Seems many aren't happy with the later, rigid Taco mud flaps, me included. There was a thread on here Mar 31 titled Flexible aftermarket mud flaps by Rokblokz. I've looked & like what they have, different sizes, flexible, & with the spacers & mounting stuff for our 2nd Gens. Seems the folks who have them like them. Lot of info. in that thread. good luck.

I trimmed my 4x4 rear flaps but working on installing some first gen 4WD rears on mine. Definitely more flexible.

Husky flaps are shorter and provide a bit more tire clearance. Ran them for several years on my previous truck. Held up great off-road.

Keep in mind shorter flaps do a poor job of protecting your rocker panels from gravel and salt. Example: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2nd-gen-tacoma-rust-rocker-panels.446896/

Unless you just feel like you have to spend some money, try cutting yours first. I just did mine with tin snips and they came out looking like they were made that way. I only cut the fronts about 3 inches each since they were scraping on speed bumps.

Here is a thread that has a lot of info on what others have done. I took both of mine off and used one as a template to mark the other. They are asymmetrical so to get the cut right, you have to turn them back-side to back-side. I gently heated mine with a heat gun before cutting.

I just completed the first gen rear flap install and I must say, they are much shorter than even the OEMs that I trimmed.

I trimmed my front ones so that they are the same distance from the ground as the the ones.

I did the EXACT same thing. Trimmed, then later removed

Did you know that if you remove the mud flaps you get an extra 23 mpg because of aerodynamics. Verified fact, no need to check with anyone else. I'm a certified toyota scientist. University of Tacoma. PhD.

I really didn’t enjoy the oem flaps because they hit literally everything on the trail. So I found some of the Rokblokz in the for sale thread and I like the way better especially because they are flexible. So definitely a soiled choice but they are a little expensive if you buy them new.

Also @Wattapunk has the right idea, how do those flaps mount? Did you need to drill new holes in the flaps? Looks good either way.

The middle hole of the 1st gen matches up
The middle hole of the 1st gen flaps was reused. The others I drilled new holes through flaps to match existing mounting holes . Ours have a pre formed shape but the 1st gen are flexible so no issue with it mounting.

Well that’s good to know they look great. Since the Rokblokz are more or less the same thing they came with these different length spacers to help with the depth issues seems to work out alright.

I bought a big rig mud flap and made my own flexible mud flaps put of it. I used the original flaps as a pattern. I shortened the front ones a bit. I attached them with factory hardware. They've been holding up fine so far. The one mud flap I bought might have cost me $20.
