Ugh I hate the fact it would have trouble if it rains. Do you think I could clamp it at the top with something like this? The tent isn’t here yet and I haven’t ordered a rack yet so no way to test it out.

It’s basically this hoist from Amazon.

    HARKEN Truck Hardtop Garage... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000K16FIK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

The instructions were great and it was really straight forward to install it. All I did on my own was add some eye bolts for the two 500 lb ratchet straps that actually secure the tent to the ceiling after the hoist lifts it most of the way. Highly recommended!

It's definitely possible. What I was surprised at, and you likely will be too, is how thick and heavy the annex material is. It's really heavy and hard to work with. So while I think those clamps will work, it won't be easy or prefect.

Like you, we wanted the annex for our dog that is too big to carry up the ladder. We quickly got tired of the annex getting full of rain and mud, and now if there is any rain in the forecast the dog sleeps in the cab. All this, plus doubling our storage space, is why I ultimately sprung for a cap.

maybe I’ll just get a full height bed rack. The RCI 18” looks pretty solid so I may just get something like that. This way I’ll be at 74” which should work well with the annex

There's a lot to lose when you go that high. I know the price different is major, but if you're going to put the tent that high and and be above the height of the cab, you're better off spending for a cap. Otherwise your tent is just as high, but the contents of your bed are exposed and you lose a lot of valuable space.

Check out BAMF or Bruteforcefab. With Bruteforcefab, the rack bolts to the bed bolts. Also you can pay half down, and then half plus shipping when its done.

This is the BAMF before I modified it

This is where I am with the lowest KbVooDoo rack. Why the annex? Just the dog? The only time I use the annex is if the dog is with us and I try to find any other way. Either leave him with the in-laws or let him sleep in the back seat. Took out the rear seats and built him a platform anyway:

do you have a picture looking into the bed from the rear? im torn between full height rack and mid. dog likes to hop back and forth thru the window but also limited on garage clearance.

Measure, then measure again and then measure again after that :) It really wasn’t that bad of an install, but you do need to really game plan well before you starting drilling into the trusses.

The big issue is how far you have from the organizer pulleys that collect the four drop lines to the side of the block and tackle where the drop lines connect. That dimension dictates how much vertical lifting range you can get out of the hoist. It’s kinda hard to describe in words, but it makes sense once you lay it all out and start measuring. Good luck!

I wrote up my install; used the same hoist... Make sure you get the 200lbs one - the others won't be enough. You can sometimes find cheaper on eBay.

Just a bunch of old crap
Had a friend with a rack that had very similar height. We took one of the rainfly rods and bent it creatively to curve around the cab just right without touching it but still extend out that corner of the side awning. It was a funky looking piece but it did the job and even in the wind it didn't touch the paint on the cab. Those rods are pretty cheap to replace a set so I'd say bend away and make it work for you. Or go to your local hardware store and get some steel stock rod in the same diameter and make a custom one so you don't bend up one of the ones that came with the tent. Or, just leave that awning closed with the grommets and toggles and just use the other 3 which will provide plenty of airflow.

Apologies ahead of time if this has been asked! I scoured through ~100 pages and searched, but couldn't find anything.

I recently put in an order with CVT for one of their co-branded Bush Company Alpha series RTTs. The mounting tracks on the tent run width-wise/left to right/horizontally which would be parallel to my prinsu rack load bars. Does anyone have any idea how it would be best to mount the tent? Would I be OK to buy a set of the 1" tent mounting feet from Prinsu? They seem to be designed for tracks running the traditional direction.
