Hello, I've done some research here and could not seem to find a specific answer, was hoping someone may help me. I am installing a Whelen siren and light control system in my 16 TRD sport. I am looking for a wire to tap into to tell the system that trucks in or out of park and a wire to tell the system when my headlights are on or off. Any ideas? Thank in advance!

I'll be no help, but couldn't resist a thread that said "Wiring Help"

Let us know when the "I fucked with the wiring and now my truck is broke" thread hits.

    I love those!

hahaha Ill just T tap into whatever wires, won't be cutting anything thats for sure. I am certain the head unit would have both of these wires as it knows when your in park and not and obviously when your headlights are on. just not sure which wires!

    A growing list of stuff
The headlight wire should be something that is easy enough to find with a meter in the harness that feeds one of the headlights.

I wouldn't bet that the trans has a wire that specifically activates when you are only in park, and even if so, it might be something that could cause you electrical headaches by tapping into it. Another way to approach it would be to see if you can add a microswitch that will engage only when your shifter is in park. That will make certain that you have no interference with the factory computer.

If you're looking for a signal for the parking brake (not the same as when the transmission is in park, but might work for you?), then there's a wire on the 28 pin connector to the radio head unit. Pin 15 (Yellow I think) is 12V when ignition is ON and Park brake is OFF, 0v when park brake is engaged.

Would a signal that the truck is in park or neutral work?
If so, the 400W inverter anytime mod is another option. (And you can do some mods while you are in there).
I will try to find the schematic for the area next time I am at the computer, not the phone.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-400w-anytime-mod-3rd-gen.436831/

Short answer is that the inverter receives a park/neutral signal to switch from 400w to 100w. To make the truck always provide 400w, you cut the wire and ground the inverter side. You could do that and use the harness side to provide a grounded signal when the truck is in park or neutral.

[EDIT... glanced at truck schematic and my suggestion may be a *bad idea*, as it interfaces with the start system and certification ECU... may be ok, just not 100% sure]

Oooh Whelen. Which controller do you plan on running...CanTrol or CenCom? What were the plans for the park sensor...slowing the lights down?
