Dose a 09 4Runner 4x4 switch illuminate? Will it fit in a 2012 tacoma? I want the 4x4 switch to light up.

I'm not sure about an 09 4Runner switch, but I illuminated mines with the Hilux switch. You can view the writeup at:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/machined-ring-for-hilux-lighted-4x4-switch.451738/

I think we all wished it lighted up from the factory. There are other ways to do it as the Hilux switch way isn't the only way. Some illuminate the stock switch. Take a search around the forum and you should be able to come up with some threads.

Yeah I got the same one but it won’t work for a 2012 Tacoma switch the internals are completely different. I changed my whole radio bezel assembly.

Can you pull your switch out and look at the back of it? Does it have something that looks like the brown thing my switch in the pic? That's the lamp.

I went to a bone yard and found a switch to cannibalize for mine. From a 4Runner or a Highlander; I don't remember. The front of the switch looked a little different. The back of the switch looked just like mine.

You can just remove the brown cover and stuff a white led in there. Same size as the hvac ones.

You still need the defuser inside the switch though

A 03-09 4Runner knob will fit with a little modification if you want it to sit right. It does sort of protrude from the dash a bit; you just have to add the + and - illumination wires to the harness, which you can tie into the HVAC illumination wires that are close by.

Do you actually have a 2012 or you have a 05-11 and added a 2012 dash piece? If you did add just the dash piece and had previously done the old mod of adding lighting to your 05-11 switch then the 4Runner knob should just plug right in and light up.

It’s a 05 with a new 2012 radio bezel. When I look at the 4 Runner switch face In photos the letters appear to be black and won’t illuminate. You guys are saying that 4 runner switch does illuminate so I’m on my way down to the wrecking yard to pick one up! Thank you all for for your help I’ll post a modification later today.

The photo posted above is what my original 05 switch looked like. Of course that brown circle is for the lightbulb. When I purchased a new 2012 Tacoma switch it also had the light bulb on back but it was just a dummy plug. All the internals and face can’t illuminate any light on the 12 Tacoma switch.
