Our member @Fire Arrow Jim has son named Danny that is a salesman down at Toyota of Easton, down on the eastern shore. He was able to get me the absolute best deal on a 4x4.

I have two handhelds. The BF-F8HP and the UV-5R. Ultimately I'm adding a CB, and a couple of walkies. I want to play well with others no matter what the case, and having an extra on hand ensures your spotter can adequately communicate with you should you need that option.

Nice! I've got a cb, it kinda sucks cause I've got it hooked to a 15 doll-hair antenna, there doesn't seem to be a lot of traffic on it up here. Been thinking about adding a ham option, how do you like the baofeng's?

Yea, you really need to invest a tad more in a decent antenna. That's probably as much if not as important as the receiver itself. Most people will tell you it's the most important thing.

I bought this one (and sorry I misquoted the model number originally and have since fixed it). It's really a great little radio.

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MAULSOK/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_RL8MEbTR886RD

It was simply the most bang for my buck. I added a higher power battery, a better antenna, a mic, a magnetic mount vehicle antenna and the programming cable.

Yes, I even studied and passed my HAM test - KC3MOY is my FCC registered call sign.

On a recent convoy with a couple other Maryland thread members to Philly for a meet, we used 4 of these Baofeng radios set to lower GMRS frequencies that didn't require everyone to have a license.

That's what makes the programmable Baofeng a great choice.

When I get the CB I'm going with one of those all built into the mic models to save room. I'll most likely go with a very flexible but very long whip style antenna.

For the walkies, I'll do more research but it will most likely be a well known brand with great features.

Yea it was a 7 dollar radio, didnt feel like investing to mich into it :D, thats great to hear they are a good product.

Yea I started to study for the test before the whole pandemic thing, got a little sidetracked. I like that you can drop down to GMRS on the bao

An linine CB would be great, mine (cobra 19)is mounted under the steering colum, im tall so i bang my shin when i get in and out. Also i cant the the display when the wheel is centered...not a good spot

Could you move it to the passenger side of the left leg kick panel, that would be easy for you to get to/see and not really be in your passengers way?

that would be great, but would require me to buy a new antenna (super short built in wire)

    I'll get to it eventually...lol

Cool, maybe check local Craigslist ads, or I'm sure there are comm threads on here.

I'm a ham, I usually have a 2M radio of some sort in the truck. I'd like to get my mobile 2M rig mounted in there, but haven't got around to it yet.

In Rob's voice "They really help when the mall lot is crowded. I can drop a spotter off and they can call me when a space opens up. "

    I crack myself up.

Apologies to RobP, I left out he can call all his friends when he flexes on the ADA ramp on the sidewalk.

Nice! I think a home base station would be fun but I'm not sure I could see myself multi-tasking on here and on that until 2 am. LOLOLOLOL I don't have an inside voice so I'd wind up in the doghouse a lot.
