Decided to make a build thread for my project truck. Bought for $300 it as a stock 2wd pickup with missing motor parts and a blow trans. Plan is to race in the 4500 class at KOH next year. This is a learning experience for me as I am teaching my self how to do everything myself.

Why ghetto built? Bc I am doing everything myself. I had no idea how to weld but I bought a 300 dollar Hobart 180 off Facebook and started learning. Prior to this tho only real mechanical work I’ve done is on my Tacoma building headlights and putting on the lift kit. So a lot of this is new territory for me. I don’t have a garage or any concrete at my house so I built a wooden platform out of wood pallets and plywood.

I started this when in October of 2018 I was 20 at the time and I’m now 21 years old putting myself through college while living at home so I’m on a budget but I’m doing what I can.

    What’s done/ planned

    Front suspension/ axle:

    Superduty Dana 60

3 link 14” coil overs and plan to run bypasses eventually

4:10 gears still debating on how to lock the front.

Eventually want to redo link mounts

    Rear end:

    14 bolt

4 link with 14” air shocks eventually going to upgrade to coil overs and bypasses as well

    4:10 with a spool

    Drivetrain:

5.3l lm7 with flat top pistons and BTR tourqe cam ( currently stripped apart and most of it is sitting in my room)

Th400 reverse manual valve body ( have but not built yet)

NWF 205 DIY Blackbox underdrive into a np 205 (planned to not have yet)

    Interior: to be determined

    Roll cage and whatnot:

Cut the back half of the frame off and did a full tube rear with an exocage

All 1.75x.120 tubing. From main hoop forward is Dom and the bed cage is a mix of dom and hrew.

Sliders are 2.5x2.5 .250 square tube.

Before this I had never welded or done any major fan work. Luckily my neighbor has a tubing bender but didn’t know how to use it so I taught myself how to do it through YouTube and forums.

Wheels and tires: 17x9 dirty life wheels currently in 37x12.5 Mtrs gonna get new tires eventually as these are just rollers.

This is just a rough overview of what I can think of. Still have a lot of work to do to get it running. Will make another post with a lot of pictures.

Any input or advice is appreciated!
