I posted this in the street trucks section and was advised I might get additional advice here:

    96 2wd ext cab 2.4 5 lug

Only 58K miles but 23yo springs are sagging and passenger side has a broken leaf. I live in the pothole capital of the world and I’m only concerned about a comfortable ride. No off-roading and not much heavy loading. Not interested in a lift, unless it would improve the pothole rides. I’d like to keep it under $500 and I plan to do the work myself. Leaf spring replacement only. I have new gas adjust KYB shocks.

What leafsprings can I get and where to buy? Appreciate any help.

Local Toyota Dealer quoted $2,724 for OEM ($2,168 for parts and $556 labor). Think I’ll pass, although he did offer aftermarket option ($1,968 for parts). This quote includes new shackles, bushings, etc. I’m hoping to reuse my shackles. I know they get pretty crusty, especially here in the rust belt. Please let me know your thoughts if you have experience.

RockAuto has only one option for 2wd. They are made by Dayton. $590 plus shipping and shackles (if needed)

There were several other vendors that were all in the $600 range plus shipping and shackles.

The best price I found was from General Spring at $320 plus $73 for shipping. They do not currently have shackles in stock.

I’ll keep doing a bit more searching and install the Generals this summer if nothing better turns up. Cheers

I'm acutally putting on the KC Springs - the 4 leaf ( HD ) within a week, so far - very pleasant to deal with and the springs look good. I don't want to lift the truck but rather have the duty of HD spring - I frequently haul 1000 lbs and the stock spring are a total joke for that...

Installed new KYB gas adjust shocks today. Raised each side in the rear by over an inch. The stockers were understandably shot. Improved the ride noticeably but I’m really gonna have to address the leaf springs soon.

And that’s the part number... also, that represents a single unit and not a pair....

When you did install where did you put the extra 3 rd metal washer? One on top and one on bottom, and then the third washer has a small lip sticking out. Did you put the third washer under the top bushing or on top of the bottom bushing?

I’m going to install some gas adjusts kyb’s on my taco when the last shock comes in the mail. I loaded up my bed and almost crashed because one side of the bed kept bouncing and the other was trying to stay put so it was making the whole truck swerve. Good thing I only had to drive 5 minutes.

OP, you might try looking in the first generation Tacoma part of this forum.
Definitely more active and a lot more topics to search for the info.
