Ha speaking of memories, I miss my old green machine as well. This was back in 2011 or 2012 running a Haswell and GTX770 or 780

Tell me about it! If I had any concern for aesthetics it would bother me a lot more. I'm still using the same Cooler Master HAF912 case in that picture which has zero eye candy inside or out but damn if it doesn't have great airflow. Despite all efforts with cable management she’s still ugly as sin. It's a floor machine so I can't see into the case anyway.

Is there no PSU vent on the bottom of that case? The PSU is pulling case air in which usually shortens lifespan a bit. PSUs are actually built now to draw ambient and not really built to help vent the case.

Sort answer is yes, there is. Long answer is that I used to have the tower sitting on a carpeted floor and that would've suffocated the PSU. The 912 case has a side-mount fan that blows air directly into the area between the PSU and GPU so it gets a constant supply of fresh air, just from a different direction.

Yeah, I figured you might of had that issue. Carpet is a PSU killer. I miss side mount fans. No good cases seems to have them anymore.

Finally retired my 10-year old NAS for my business and transferred everything to a new one. Synology DS218+ w/ two WD Red 4TB drives. Newegg shipped it right away and set up was a breeze. I kept the server name and folder paths the same, so I didn't have to update the mapped network drives on the PC's.

I was going to go SSD, but I read that this is one situation where SSD may not be good (due to the finite number of eventual read/writes).

I depends on how you use your NAS. If it's for vault storage then SSDs are fine. If you're constantly editing media to and from it, or directly editing on it, then platter drives are the way to go. I see a lot of media companies going to severs with hybrid deployments now since most Linux based NAS software supports that. Basically the SSD is a cache for the HDDs, which really helps with loss of power incidents too.

Hey @Sterdog I've got a 144hz Freesync waiting on me when I get home. What are the ins & outs of getting my RTX2060 to use G-sync with the panel? I've already got a display port cable. Is it as simple as enabling freesync on the monitor, then enabling G-sync in the Nvidia control panel?

Yup. It's that simple. There is a small chance if it's not a certified compatible panel that it won't work right but I have yet to see an issue with any monitor I've tried.

My GTX 770 looked very similiar to that. It was EVGA.

Edit: Found my MicroCenter receipt online. It was an EVGA GTX 770 Superclocked

I initially bought the MSI Radeon R9 280X Overclocked but it developed a LOUD high pitch noise (coil whine) less than a month after purchasing so they let me exchange it for the GTX 770 Superclocked.

Edit #2: Found a picture (potato quality)

    That's the one!

Also bad news on the monitor. She's a beauty MSI Optix G271. Great color and man I'd been missing out for SO long on 120/144hZ. Love the Freesync/Gsync adaptation as well.

Problem: the Green channel of one pixel died. Just to the left of the center of the screen. It displays red and blue correctly, but can't display whites or greens. Such a shame. I've tried fixing it with the alternating RGB videos & apps but they haven't worked.

With all of the COVID stuff going on these monitors are sold out everywhere so getting a replacement is going to be impossible for a while. Luckily Best Buy has extended their return window so I have until May 31st to return it.

Yeah it'll be going back. It's unbearable having it that close to the center of the screen and anytime you're looking at anything light (like this forum for instance) there's a black dot.

Pictured is the Fractal Design Define R4 case. I sold that PC setup (i5 3570k, 16GB RAM, GTX 770) to a friend and then I got my current setup (i7-4790k, 16GB RAM, GTX 1080 - had a GTX 970) with the Fractal Design Define R5 case lol

Edit: They are up to the R7 now.

I've never had any complaints with them. Granted I haven't had a ton of cases in the time I've been building PC's like some people *cough* Sterdog *cough*

I think before my Fractal R4 was a Coolermaster case and before that was the Antec 900 V1 case.

I've had the occasional Antec for budget builds and what not.

For awhile, I was running nothing but Thermaltake's armor series when SLI and TRI SLI first came out. Those setups were so expensive :spending:
