My uncle bought it for me for Christmas twenty years ago; I loved it so much that I literally read it to pieces! I got it for Christmas in 2000, and before the end of the decade it was being held together with duct tape!

I think six months is probably typical, and no earlier than 4 months. As with a lot of "conventional wisdom," it changes over time and there are differing viewpoints. I personally do it between 6 months and a year. Some people think you should wait for them to mature to let the hormones do their thing as long as possible, but I wouldn't think that the difference between 6 months and the first cycle on a female would be significant. But 11 weeks? Way too early, in my mind. As the other poster mentioned, though, rescue orgs typically have it done before they adopt them out since controlling population is part of their mission.

I was just told 4-6 months too. Got a pup who’s about to be 6 months but the vet isn’t doing routine surgeries right now. Said if it has to wait it will be ok.

My lab rescue was spayed at 12 weeks right when the shelter got her. A lot of the shelters will spay and neuter dogs when they get them so that if they end up bouncing around shelters they won’t get put down if they end up at a kill shelter. Apparently that’s plays a big part especially in more populated areas where the shelters are overwhelmed.

Yep. Especially in a larger breed. They are still maturing and developing up to 2 years old

we have had labs (70-90 lbs) over the years. Maybe 4 of them. Now on to full size doodles (50-60ish). Are those considered large breeds? I’ve never had a vet recommend waiting that long.

    https://rockysretreat.com/early-spay-neuter/

I have german shepherds, and one of them was spayed early (medical reasons) and she is now fully mature and is way too large for a female, she is tall and long. Her sister was never spayed and her size and structure is MUCH more appropriate for a female GSD. Our vets recommend waiting 2 years until making such a decision.

our breeder has a contract stating we can not spay/neuter before 2
