Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
I’ve been a Tacoma owner almost since they came out, a 97, 99, 03, 09 and 2019. My first Toyota was a 79 SR5 I bought in 1980. Well I’m looking for a Tundra. I thinks looking for a unicorn. I want a regular cab shortbed 5.7 truck, preferably red. I found one in IN, but I normally don’t even consider “rust belt” state vehicles. Question: Is there a “best” year for 2007 and newer Tundras? Thanks

Also interested in this, but more for general Tundra buying info. Years to avoid and why, what issues to look for in certain years, etc? Suspect I just totaled my 1st gen Tacoma and figured I should plan ahead and do some homework before I hear officially from insurance company.

I don't think there's necessarily a "best" year for the Tundras. There's a refresh for the 2nd gens (Tundras.com calls it a 3rd gen). Some have stated the gas pedal is super sensitive in the 2007-2013 but fixable. The 5.7 is known to have cam tower leak issues.

The tundra doesn't have a bad year or two like the 2nd gen tacoma was known for with the head gasket issues in the 2005 and 2006. Don't waste your time with the V6 or 4.6l V8 in the trundra, just go with the 5.7.

I traded in my 2014 Tacoma for my 2020 Tundra. I loved my Tacoma but I have absolutely no regrets in switching.

Head over to Tundras.com and there's tons of information and great guys. Oh and mostly the same moderators as Tacomaworld :burnrubber:

Cool. Appreciate that info. I found a 2010 trd that is a possibility but I've also found two 2015 trd pro Tacomas for a fair dealer price so I'm assuming I can get them down a bit on that.

What is your reason for wanting to switch? I was looking at Tacoma’s, tundras, and 4 runners. Tundras are HUGE and that was literally my only complaint. I drive a lot and need to be able to get anywhere.

my aunt loves hers and my buddy has had his for years! You will be happy!! Agreed with the go for the 5.7 only idea

I drive a lot and at times the Tundra feels large. But I also don't drive through congested cities that often with it so it's never been a problem. It felt huge when i first switched from the Tacoma but I got used to it real quick. Now it's just normal to me.

The best part about Toyota trucks/SUV's, you can't go wrong with any of them.

100% correct on not going wrong! Yeah, sometimes I work in downtown San Diego. Little tough with a bugger truck, but the tundra was my first choice!! I love them

Haha, I think I’ve seen some of your comments over on the Tundra forum. I started lurking over there late last year when I began researching a possible move from my current Taco to a new Tundra (or a low mileage 1st gen 4x4 single cab). You’re correct, the guys over there are great and the info is very useful.

And to the OP, I’m fairly certain you can’t go wrong with any particular year. 2014+ got a visual adjustment, inside and out, but it’s 99% the same truck. The trick, as you know well, will be finding one that meets your criteria. But there’s one out there for you, somewhere, and it’ll pop-up eventually.

I'm over there! Same name lol People tend to be nicer on the Tundra forums. You wont get roasted as bad for a dumb question (oil type and OCI threads included )

As @Plucky was his name said, just find something that fits your criteria and you'll be happy.
