Have my CMC plates coming on Thursday and then ordering new rims and tires. Figured I’d get the CMC out of the way before larger tires. Currently lifted via Bilstein 6112 5/4 in the front and medium Dakars with 5160s in the rear. Getting the method MR312s and unsure whether to go 255/80/17 with Cooper Discover ST Maxx or 285/70/17 with Cooper Discover AT3 XLTs. Also wondering about 0 or -12 offset. I do a ton of highway driving 70k in 2 years) but love to find trails once I’m anywhere. I currently have 265/70/17 KO2s on sport rims but hate the way they handle in slick rain/snow conditions. Thoughts or pics would be super helpful. As always. Great community and thank you for input.

I've got 255/85/16 ST Maxx....great tires, and I love that they're skinny, but I wouldn't recommend them for snow. I run a 2nd set of winter tires 6mo of the year.

If you need a snow capable tire (something with that three-peak mountain snowflake “3PMSF” symbol) and don’t want to run a second set of dedicated winter tires, the it’s worth looking at the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S....they’re an all-terrain with great winter capability. They're the tire I'd run if I had just one all year. My family back in PA are going to run them on their Jeeps once it's time for a new set.

If you care about daily driver performance and MPGs also pay attention to your wheel and tire combined weight, and try to minimize where possible. More info:

Also, KO2s are terrible in the rain after about 25-30k miles. I swap them out every 18-24mo and sell the old ones for a decent amount with plenty of tread left to offset the cost of the new tires. That way my truck always has fresh rubber at a small premium.

I’ve been seriously looking at the 4s as they seem like a great multi-use tire. I just wasn’t sure on the tread for off road. I’m not doing anything more serious than URE straight trails but had to drive to IL twice this year from NC. The last time I went through a pretty serious snow storm and realized just how slick my KO2s were and they still have a serious amount of tread left.

Hopefully can sell my rims and tires. I see a ton of sport rims on for entirely too much. Will be glad to off load them if I can. KO2s have a ton of tread left with a full size unused spare KO2. Fingers crossed but will venture down that path once the new rims are on.

    I agree,
The KO2's I have are great until it rains and they have around 30,000 on them but plenty of tread left. They get real loose in the rain.
I am going to be switching to a set of Falken Wildpeak a/t3w at the end of the summer.
