    Hello All,

We are in the market for a good ground tent and have found what we think is the best fit for us but wanted to see if anything else was out there that we may have missed.

    Tent Requirements:

    1. Must be able to comfortably sleep a family of 4.
    - i.e. fit 2 queen size air mattresses

    2. Be well enough built to last at least a few years if well taken care of.

    3. Be reasonably water resistant.

    4. Be reasonably easy to put up. Sub 15min set up time.

    Camping Locations:

North-East United States; Spring, Summer, Fall

    Price:

Price is not really an issue. Definitely willing to pay more for a better built tent. Would prefer to be sub $500.

After reading reviews and doing some research; as of now we are leaning towards this Coleman:

What about LLBean tents? Our family has 4 total now I think. We go out at least (nonCovid years) 4 or 5 times each summer.

beans has a great return policy

I did not see that one! I like it. Now to figure out if the demensions include the dog house portion. It may not fit 2 queen beds well if the 14 ft long includes that dog house. . .

Thanks for the recommendation tho!! Im deff going to give Beans a call in the AM!

Springbar tent with the portico option. I have a smaller version of this one in the link (fits one queen and a cot) and it has been terrific in bad weather. The nice thing about canvas compared to nylon is that it tends to stay cooler when it is hot and warmer when it is cold. Easy to setup and will outlast any nylon tent by many years if cared for.

The tent in your link looks nice! We've had a few Coleman tents and had good luck with them. We've had one similar to this for 6 years or so, and it's still good.

    https://outdoorchimp.com/products/coleman-8-person-instant-tent

It sets up easily in a minute or two. I would buy It again.

The only issue we had was that it wasn't completely watertight. We sprayed it with camp-dry and it was fine for a few years. It started leaking again last fall, but it would probably be fine if I reapply it.

Here's a larger version with a rain fly.:

This might be my next tent.

Kodiak Canvas tents. I have a the Super Deluxe Kodiak Canvas Tent VX Series 10x10 and absolutely love it. Super fast and easy set up for one person. Slept in it during some heavy rains and not a drop on the inside. Truly a quality tent. It is heavy though. Definitely a truck camping/base camping tent. I would think the 10x14 would be good for a family of four. Would give you room to use cots with some room to spare. Definitely spring for the super deluxe though. With the extra windows, when you open them all up, feels like your in a screen room. I bought mine from competitive edge. Wasn't able to find them cheaper anywhere else. Had a good experience with them. They do great overviews of their whole line as well on YouTube. I have their sleeping bag too. Love it! And I just realized I feel like an advertisement, lol.

I second the Kodiak Canvas - I have the 10x14, and it's like setting up a little cabin in the woods. Heavy duty floor, poles, and canvas, but it is heavy overall. Definitely a base camp tent - although, it is very fast to put up. Staking out the tent is the longest part of the process. It shrugs off the weather like nothing, too. Much more rugged than any nylon tent.

You are the king of the campground in it.

Would love to know of any instant tent recommendations for my family

i have been looking into the cheap ozark or Coleman ones but hoping something out there more durable.

    11-12 person
    Instant 5 mins
    Sub $500
Somewhat durable and not going to break in wind

    any help would be appreciated.

500 for a good tent that big will be very hard to come by. Big tents are a pain in the ass, consider a few smaller ones. Good luck.

    Yeah
I have multiple kids under 4 years old so would prefer them in the same tent as us.

I don’t mind so much if it costs more...maybe $800-$900 if need be.
Just would like it to be instant or very fast 5 mins setup and at least 180 sq feet of room

I doubt you'll be able to find a camping tent that large with a sub-five minute setup time for any price. There are ice fishing options https://www.amazon.com/Eskimo-FatFi...ds=clam+pavillion&qid=1612454614&sr=8-15&th=1 which might work but I suspect these might get a little warm in Florida.

When camping with kids, our tent was used only for sleeping with minimal room (length and width of a sleeping pad) allocated to each occupant. We used a separate walled 12'x12' screen room for cooking, eating, lounging and family time. Clothing and gear was also stored in the screen room. Also, keep in mind the tent pads in most developed campgrounds aren't laid out to support tents of this size which will limit what's available to you.
