So I just bought this and didn't realize it didn't come with any hardware. I know they sell one on their website, but it's $20 for it. Most of the standard bed rail nuts are in the size 3/8-16 which is too big for the mounting holes of the driveshaft mount. What do you guys use or did you just buy the rockymount hardware kit?

Considering everything I've ever seen from Saris was a wobbly heap of shit, I'd pass.

People weld a 2" receiver hitch to swingouts all the time for bike racks. Grinder and a little paint make it good as new.

I do think that's probably the ideal solution, but here's two other off the shelf options for others looking:

Specs and stuff look good, but that weird cup looking bracket for the shock looks terrible IMO.

I ordered the same thing, but I’m using the hardware from a quick release rail mount I already had. Was worried about mounting it horizontally, but man it is SOLID.

Also you can get it cheaper from competitive cyclist if you sign up for their email list.

I like where this is going. I currently have a hitch mount but I know it's not exactly going to be user friendly once the camper is on and I have to climb in and out thru the back(even with the fold-down ability on the mount).

I may have to look into a used thru axle mount that I could fab up to the tire carrier. Mine is dual swingout, so I may only be able to fit one bike with the tire carrier being offset.

I feel like these would be the easiest solution for someone that's got a tire carrier that is centered. On mine, this would definitely hang the bike too far out past the side of the truck and these frame mounts tend to not fit dual suspension bike well.

I'm sure @honda50r could help you out on your stop in Knoxville on both trail and campground

The Yakima has an adapter bar of sorts for dual suspension bikes. But you’re right, they might stick out way too far with the offset tire.

edit: do you have any profile shots of that setup?

    31.8mm vs 35mm bar/stem setups. Opinions? Thoughts?

Is it another industry trend to generate sales, or is bigger really better (yup, thats what she said)?

Yea, you're gonna want some sort of swing out hitch option. Probably easiest to weld a hitch receiver to your current swing out. I think @Eazy.E has done this...

I'm on the smaller side and and I can't say that it makes a big difference either way. Having said that, I've cracked a 31.8 carbon bar but not a 35mm.

Anyone have thoughts on the DHX2? I have an opportunity to get one on the cheap.

Here’s some bikes mounted up to a hitch mount on an offset spare...

I've ridden one bike with a DHX2 (Commencal Meta) and one with a Push 11-6 (Evil Following). Both were amazing at handling rock gardens and chattery stuff and both climbed pretty well. The Push coil seemed to handled big hits better and didn't "bottom out" as harshly, which is amazing considering it was on a much smaller travel bike. Both bikes felt more planted and stable, but less playful with a coil. I've also heard that you really want a progressive linkage design if you're gonna run a coil shock, which is consistent with my experience.

I run one on my Evil Insurgent. Climbs well and absolutely eats up the tech. I for the life of me cannot feel a bottom out on my coil. Never felt a harsh feeling at the end of the stroke
