What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Looks good man, that’s no easy job. I’ve never had any luck with it.

 

Iridiums are not recommended for the 6cyl. They are what goes in the 4cyl. Others have tried this and have not been happy with the results. Save your money and stick with plain copper in the v6.

 

4.88s and rear ARB locker installed (wired to compressor, air lines ran, no leaks).

Started the gear break in procedure today with mild driving and cooling cycles. The first time I put a bit of pressure on the gas pedal to slowly move forward I instantly noticed the difference. It was a damn good feeling. I was on stock gears the whole time with 33s and for a few weeks on 35s, such a big difference with 4.88s, love it.

 

Added some eibach coils and dirt king UCAs... they pair nicely with the maxtrac spindles

 

Threw the kayaks into the bed for the first time this year. My son got his 1st kayak in Feb. He took to it like a champ.

when the truck was newish I undercoated it, and ran it up and around to the first body line....urs looks great.....

 

How did the sprayer method work for you?
Been thinking of that, it might be better then the engine start and turning off every 7 seconds.
Any insight much appreciated.

 

It was the first time trying the sprayer method, and I'll never go back to the laying under the truck hand pumping from a bottle. Saves a ton of time and no mess. Only had to turn the truck on 4 times until fresh fluid was pumping out.

 

There a write up or something for it? First I’m hearing of it and I’m about at the point of having to do this.

 

Odd I put NGK iridiums and it’s fine. Gapped them properly and no issues. Curious to know why they’re not recommended.

I guess I did something FOR my truck today.

 

It's pretty widely accepted that Bosch electronics (sparkys, O2 sensors, etc) and Japanese manufacturer's ignitions/ECMs don't play well together. Can't find a scientific explanation spelled out in layman's terms, but that's what I've read throughout the years and if you do a search, it's a pretty widely supported claim. I have recent personal experience that corroborates this but I'll spare you the story. It's also pretty widely accepted that the 1GR-FE was designed to run copper-core NGK or Denso sparkys and that running anything else in an attempt to gain performance is just throwing your money away.

I'm a big proponent of running Toyota and Toyota-recommended parts on my drivetrain and sticking to Toyota identified maintenance intervals, but a lot of people could perceive that as throwing my money away, too. However, in the case of spark plugs, Toyota recommends the cheapest NGK or Denso plug for the 1GR and users have proven that's the best option, so that's good enough for me.
