Upgrade to Pioneer AVIC-W8400NEX questions/parts list, how does this look?

I currently have a 19 Pro MT, so Entune Premium, non-JBL.

Mainly looking for wireless carplay, capacitive touch, retention of stock steering wheel controls, stock GPS antenna.

Questions:
1. Which, if any, stock features will I lose? I think I read that I might lose lane departure assist?
2. Any recommendations on a radio/trim removal tool set?

not sure I've seen it done and reported here with a '19 yet, but maybe i just missed it.

on a 17 MT, same premium non-jbl, a 8200nex and all the idata maestro stuff, i just lost the turn by turn on the dash, but everything else including wheel controls work. totally unsure about the new safety stuff, but good luck!

 

I had issues using Android Auto with the

$9 AX-TOYUSB - USB-Auxilliary Retention Harness - USB adaptor to retain the OE USB in select Toyota vehicles

AX-TOYUSB adapter. In fact on Crutchfeild's site it lists that adapter as CarPlay and Android Auto incompatible. I ended up switching to the Maestro

$35 ACC-USB-TO2 Factory USB to Male USB Adaptor for TO2 Vehicles

ACC-USB-TO2. Just a heads up if you're looking to use those features at anytime with USB connection.

 

I have an alpine head unit with the maestro and I tested out the lane departure this morning to check for you, it works on mine. Could be different with your headunit, but that harness should retain it.

 

I have the avh4200nex and doesn't effect anything but the audio doesn't mess with Lane departure or cruise control or nada. In a 2019 toyota tacoma trd sport double cab long bed

 

If lane departure works for the alpine, it will absolutely work for the Pioneer

As for panel tools, don’t bother. No need for them in this truck
Grab right side of trim (orange in my truck)

Pull off

Remove four 10mm bolts
Remove radio


I have used both the axxess and idata USB adapters for Toyota and had no problems with apply car play or android auto.
Most issues come from people using cheap cables, not the adapter itself.
CarPlay is pretty reliable even with pretty bad cables. Android auto is the finicky one. Good quality cable (preferably 4ft or under) and you should be ok with either adapter.

If you want to keep XM, be sure to get the tuner

When building your wiring harness, add a 6” pigtail to accy (red wire) ground (black) and remote turn on (blue or blue/white from radio) and cap them off. These come in handy down the road for adding things in without having to rip apart your harness. For example, running a turn-on wire to an amp, or powering a radar detector or dash cam.

 

Didn't know our HU was so easy to remove, thanks for that. Gives me more confidence in the future if I want to mess with anything.

 

Of I got the AVIC-W85000NEX would it be same wires that I need to buy as AVIC-W8400NEX ? Should I get an AMP or the sound is good enough? Thank you guys in advance
