3rd gen can’t handle steep hills?????

This is the second time it happened and this time I finally caught it on tape. Has anyone else had this problem? I’m kind of scared going uphills with it now.
This is a 16 TRDsport 4x4 with 33 tires.
You can actually hear that loud cranking noise.

Is it geared properly? Do the tires have a good grip? I haven’t had this issue in my truck doing a much steeping line.

 

Yeah it was gripping just fine. Apparently it’s a known issue for the 3rd gens.

 

Does the oil catch can solve this?

 

2nd gens do it as well (too lazy to search but it's there)

 

Was that knock coming from the engine? If so don't see how a catch can will solve that. Maybe it'll help with the smoke but that noise sure sounds like it was starving for oil. Or maybe I'm way off base...

 

check out the thread I linked above. Oil pulled in to cylinder, oil has lower octane than gasoline, so the cylinders aren’t firing normally, which is the sound heard.

 

Like I said I've been wrong before and likely am here too. I've just never heard detonation that loud and clear. That sure sounds like a collapsed lifter or other mechanical issue. But if that solved it good for them. It's a quick, cheap and easy fix.

 

That corrects the smoking on steep inclines. What is causing the clicking/clank sound on the OP vid?

 

Impossible. 2nd gen is the best truck made in the world.

Just ask any 2nd genner.
