Well my wife loves guns and shooting. If it's a setup for something down the road, it's pretty far down the road because we have been married 32 years, and hasn't shown up yet.

There has been an official letter released on this.
Measurements are to be taken from the end of the barrel (unless the muzzle device is pinned in place) to the end of the buffer tube. In the case of a folding pistol, the measurement would be conducted with the brace folded, measuring to the most rear portion of the pistol.

Most popular rifle platform on the entire planet, yea I'm sure its garbage. Case head separation is almost always an ammo issue not a rifle issue...

Probably an experience from Vietnam-era M16s. The ammo was out-of-spec, barrels weren't chrome-lined and GIs back then didn't maintain their rifles.

And people like to derp and claim that is still a problem today.

Same folks like to gloss over the dumpster fire that the M-14 was.

It was, and still is, an adequate weapon. Just like an SKS. Not good, not terrible. It's about 3.6 out of 5.

Actually in sheer numbers the AK and it's subsequent iterations is probably the most popular. It was head and shoulders above the M-16 in terms of reliability. Said M-16 was perfectly clean except for the magazines I had just put through it. It wasn't the first failure of that particular weapon but none til that time had the potential dire consequences.

I switched back to an M-14 and never had any of those types of problems. By that time the M-14 was a mature platform. What most people really liked was the weight of the weapon and ammo. But I didn't have to hump it through the bush so weight wasn't that big a factor.

30-40k rounds, anecdotally, through the platform and I've only had 5 malfunctions. I didn't track civilian use, but about 6k rounds with budget products and I'm at 5 malfunctions.

All of my malfunctions were due to magazines or ammunition.

Last night I realized I need a get-home rifle. We were downtown for dinner and protests broke out right outside. The restaurant kicked everyone out and shut down early...and I only had 8 shots of 380 on me. This is now going to ride around in the backseat.

You can always lock the rifle to the truck.

One: You should never carry a firearm in a vehicle where it is not secured, unless it will be tended to the entire time of transit (this means never leave it alone and unlocked). Gun Juggling is on the rise (look it up). People are watching gun stores and gun ranges looking for a person to leave a firearm unattended. Do not be a target and leave an unsecured firearm in a vehicle.

Two: Carrying a firearm into a hostile area is dumb (why are you there if you are not law enforcement?). Don't go into known hostile area intentionally armed; leave policing actions to the police and national guard. You are looking to be disarmed and possibly shot with your own gun. I will drive a hour out of my way to avoid a protest or march. Mobs and mob mentality have kill innocent bystanders.

Three: This isn't a forum thread to discuss actions or tactics of a potential engagement scenario. Again, leave that to the police or national guard. As soon as a firearm is disclosed in this environment, that person becomes the aggressor and now the police will be looking for them, rather that the looter that just blew out the window of Target.

I can honestly say that being retired military has given me a very unique prospective on rules of engagement, and being an NRA Certified Instructor has highlighted a lot of civilian misconception of what happens after an engagement. Once you have disclosed a firearm (you don't even have to point it or pull the trigger), you have now become the aggressor in a conflict. Few think of the legal ramifications of their actions, and even the well intentioned armed citizen can become avictim of our legal system. I carry every time I leave my house, and I still cringe at the possibility that I may have to use my firearm. I go out of my way to avoid conflict. I go out of my way to be de-escalatory in my dealings with others. Righteous engagements happen every day, saving the life of someone in mortal danger, yet many of those same people who are cleared in the eyes of the law, will face civil suites that will leave them destitute.

    This guy gets it.

Riding around with a $2500 Daniel defense rifle in your trunk makes zero sense.

That said, an SKS is nice to have for hogs. They never jam.
